Television ad uses a facebook URL, not a dedicated domain

First time I've seen a "traditional media" ad reference a non dedicated domain, instead they show the URL of their facebook account.

What happens if FB suspend or delete their account?

First time? Seems like this practice is becoming more common than dedicated sites. More often than not, it's facebook or twitter.

Seriously? They have been doing this for years with MySpace, YouTube, etc.

I've always thought it was weird.

I figured if a company was going to shell out big bickies for a television campaign that they'd at least have a dedicated site. Guess I was wrong. :D

At least with advertising a street address they have a lease agreement or own the building, and there's probably also some measure of protection over their phone service (ie phone number), and even domains are subject to protection... but FB and Twitter are third party companies that can pretty much do what they want. Remember how successful (not) some people were at suing Google when their positions dropped?

What's to stop someone Joe Jobbing a FB or Twitter account? What recourse does the owner have?

(Unless it's actually a co-promotion and they have an agreement with FB, since they derive benefit from it too.)

First it was done with MySpace and now every now and then Facebook and Twitter, but one can only hope they'll realize how unprofessional it looks. The ONLY time a company should be doing this is if it's someone like Honda, who we all know is at honda.com, and they're choosing instead to put up some promotion-related Facebook page URL instead of their URL everyone already knows anyways. And even still I wouldn't do that if I were them.

You make a very good point about account being suspended or deleted.

Today's guest on the Big Biz Radio Show suggested that businesses should get rid of their web site and turn them into splash pages pointing people to Facebook.

That actually sounds even dumber.

Makes them seem more intouch with modern social networking...

Some idiot computer illiterate fucking moron clown might be able to identify more with www.fagger.com/honda (twitter) than www.honda.com

That's what I think too, twitter and FB are going to [or already are] become pseudo-TLDs. Don't type an address into your address bar, type an account into FB/twitter...

A church just up the road from me has a Yahoo email address as their contact on a proper painted sign which I always found amusing (and cheap).
