thats pretty harsh

I actually did this for a friend so it was kind of a stumble into it. He already owns a biz and loves sports and classic cars so he is going to buy more to sell on. All I have to do is the advertising and the first contact with the buyer... But jeese did I get some fucking scammers trying to buy the car from abroad
I had one guy phone me up saying he could get way more than what the car was worth as they give people loans to buy cars so all I had to do was give him £195 or something and they would garantee the sale of the car and I would get the money back. When he told me the book value I laughed at him and told him he was way off and was talking crap, he would never get that price ..he really did not like it and hung up ..lol

Put them in other people's names. Brothers, sisters, wives, parents, etc.

A few guys here in the office are from the UK and they tell me the same applies in the UK.

If you sell more than 2 - 3 cars in a short period you have to by law tell the buyers your a trader and offer the same guarantees as a dealer......to stop dealers trying to act as personal sellers newspapers monitor payments/telephone numbers etc in the advertising dept.

Never heard of that as my misses brother has been buying and selling cars allmost all of his life and hes made a pretty good living from it, but he has never said anything like that and when I bought a car from him it was just like a private sale no guarantee or anything . I know they changed the law about advertising your car for sale in the streets over here but that still goes on anyway,
I will have to look into that though

He assures me its 100 percent correct and not a new law but has been in place many years (he sold cars for a number of yrs in UK ).

If you think about it the law makes sense.....trading cars as a private sale avoids all the regulations and guarantees that a dealer/trader has to provide (even if just selling part time from home ) so its technically defrauding the buyer and taking away all the liability etc.

I started out buying and selling cars out of peoples back yards when I was about 21. I used to just drive around and watch for cars for sale cheap or broken down. I never paid over $500 and every single car I bought I tripled my money.

I finally rented a small shop to work out of and managed to get my Used Car dealers license and proceeded to go broke..

Lesson learned.. fuck doing it legal..

I made good money selling on the side by keeping open titles, and honestly wish I had the place I could do it now. My biggest mistake was trying to do things on the up and up..

Then again, I wonder why I do things in adult on the up and up while fuckers get rich in this biz fucking everyone else. Maybe I didn't learn my lesson after all.

Haha I agree with this as well. Splitting focus only hurts all projects. It may make you some extra cash, but you don't really grow in any of the projects.

A friend of mine from high school has a dad that does this. He buys cars for $500 or less and then makes em work in a day or two and sells them (back then in the paper, now on craigslist) for $1200 to $2400... He does 2 to 3 transactions a week. Not bad cash. Doesn't have to report to anyone...

When I was in school we'd go over and help him. He paid us each $25 a day and then was able to turn over 2 more cars a week. Since we only worked 4 days we got a combined $200 while he made an extra $1000 or more.

That was my first lesson on being your own boss and getting others to work for you.

My buddy never ended up doing it. He does odd jobs. Sad. His dad makes some decent cash and my buddy makes like $600 a week or less. I tried to show him adult. Some people are happy making dirt.

Have showed so many friends where to start etc and what to do, It all ends up in them backing out after even receiving the first sale. They didn't actually understand that what I actually did was work not just look at some porn a few hours a day.

I used to do this with a friend. We both worked for a company that did insurance valuations on total losses. Through the company we could look up in the computer any type of car in our area and get all of them that had been advertised in the paper in the last 6 months. We would find cheaper cars ($1000-$2000 range) and call really old ads on our breaks and lunch. Almost once a week we would find a car that was in the paper for a certain amount (say $1500) and never sold and they would let us have it for half that. We would clean them up, fix them up a little bit and resell them at a nice profit.

Were I live you are only supposed to do 6 cars (like above) before you get a dealers license. We each did six then did a few more on the sly and then we both ended up quitting that job so the great info kind of dried up.

As an aside a guy I worked with there got two amazing deals. One was a 65 Buick Gran Sport convertible for $1500. It needed a new top, but was in great shape. The guy was moving out of the country and needed to get rid of it. He also got a Pontiac Fiero GT for $200. The car was broke down and didn't run. That year of those cars had a recall on them where they replaced the motors because they would explode. So he bought it, took it in had the recall work done and had basically a brand new car for $200.

Know what you are saying here but I just see it as more money coming in , As im on the computer most days I might as well put something else to work, All I do is post the car ads on the net, reply to emails and speak to potential buyers on the phone, The rest is done by somebody else.
