Will a wireless router work in a closet?

I do not want to unplug it to try. Do you think it will work if I hide it in the closet?

That would depend on the router..

Our last place had one built into the closet, it was in a closet, within the closet, and worked perfectly.

Depends on what the walls of the closet are made of and what kind of router it is.

Average closet with average current router....Yes.

Depends on the location of the "closet" in relation to the work stations. Same floor? Fluorescent lighting?

Shouldn't be a problem at all. I have one in my entertainment center. Connects the components that have the ability and serves as a wireless router for guests.

You're more than likely going to be fine. Look at how many people are able to leech off of neighbor wireless connections.

Ever connected to the internet from your bedroom? Upstairs? Outside a coffee shop? Hotel?

The answer is no, definitely not, walls will completely cancel the signal.

I take it thats sarcasm!

I get a 600kb upload from my laptop in the garden with my router in either the bedroom on my PC or the Studio wired in on the PC.

Yes, a router works for about 20 to 30 mts.

Have you never used a connection on wifi phones when walking down a street... thats someones connection thats not got a password.

Wireless "things" - phones, routers, etc. will only be blocked by a) metal and b) hills.
Walls made of drywall, wood, etc. really won't affect the radio waves. (Just barely).

Pretty much only metal blocks radio waves, except a hill might be several hundred
feet thick. Several hundred feet of soil and rocks will stop just about anything that
tries to go through it.

TV style remotes or other things which need to be pointed at the thing you are
controlling are different because they don't use radio waves, they use infrared -
basically a flashing red light. They are therefore blocked by pretty much anything
you can't see through.
