Nope, not heated. The filtration is on(30% of the time), so the water is moving a little, thats the reason, I guess.

There is actually more degrees under the pool covering. And when the sun is shining, it works like a hothouse.

wouldnt it be better to let the water out in winter? because if it really turns ice it can damage the pool cause it expands

I didn't expect to be the winter so cold. I still swimm in it from time to time and wanted to keep it that way over the winter. When the temperature isn't going up soon, I will have to let the water out, at least some of it.

The little amount of chlorine should do it since -101C is the freezing point...

My pool froze over and its only -5 here in the UK. Its not heated at the moment & I added a chlorine shock treatment for winter to stop it going green.

You lucky fucker being able to still swim in it if you wanted!

Of chlorine yes, not the diluted variety when it's in the pool

It does help, I agree

Its possible that you are getting a small amount of heat from the earth. I believe the frost line is around 4 feet deep in New Hampshire and upstate New York so any pool that is say 6 to 8 feet deep will have some area below that line, Add to that the pool cover which can also hold in a little heat and there you go. I used to have a large pool in my London home and during the winter i would float a number of plastic beach balls on the surface so that if it did freeze it would crush the balls and not the pool.

Some pools should not be emptied as it will cause damage to the liner plaster .
