Power of the Internet RATM got xmas number 1
Rage Against the Machine just got xmas number one in the UK chart over the x-factor winner. The power of the internet and social media is amazing.
Just thought someone might be interested. EDIT: Added link for truth: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8423340.stm They have also said they will play a free concert to say thanks, see thier website.

SUCKERS
RATM signed to... SONY! It was all a fucking marketing trick. You quasi-rebels are just sucking the cock of The Man. |

Would you have preferred people got some piece of shit independent-labeled emo band to #1 instead?

When you know that, makes all this rebellion seem a little bit fucking pathetic. But calling me names is an awesomely great way to make your point that buying RATM is massively rebellious and alternative. Well done you!!!11oneoneone |

Great, then you missed the brunt of the statement that people were making. Surely if hundreds of thousands of people could agree to buy the single of some nobody band that no one knows that makes songs like Killing in the Name, they would have done it. Social media hasn't quite reached that stage yet, so RATM was chosen. Yes, signed by Sony, but their statement wasn't against Sony, it was against Simon Cowell and the forcefed music shoved down our throats (including emo bands, ergo an independently-signed emo band getting #1 instead would have made a worse statement, that people will eat forcefed shit just as long as some large company isn't profiting from it.).

Do you know who Cowell's label is a sunsidury of? OH NOES! It's Sony! So, it was a brilliant hustle. If RATM won, Sony got lots of cash. If XFactor won, Sony got loads of cash. But gosh, it's so sweet it fooled you. |

I think any money that Sony may have made off of this was pretty much nil in the broad scope of Sony's financial revenues. RATM is a great choice for this, as they are probably as subculture as you can truly get for such a big named band, they are likely to have files on them with intelligence agencies I'm sure. I'm not so sure that the appeal of this campaign was actually anti-Cowell or anti-"the man", as much as it was more an anti-mainstream protest and show of hatred for the majority of people and their tastes in music and culture overall ![]() |

It could have been Lady Gaga for all I care (and I cant fucking stand her), its just that when I was growing up the Xmas no.1 was always looked forward to, but the last few years weve been spoonfed the bullshit off that horrid reality show. However, Im delighted it was RATM as they are one of the best bands ever.
