tv bulb companies are scam artists

tv bulb companies are scam artists

Ordered a dlp bulb for our 65" dlp tv, (the old one laster 4 years which is not bad) and it arrived in a timely manner. Install the bulb which is very simple and when I switch on the tv it is flickering and has a white shadow on the screen. Also the tv keeps re-booting and still the same thing happens.
I went to the site I bought it from and followed the instruction for getting a return #.
Have emailed them twice as per their instructions yet nobody has gotten back to me in a week....

This is the 2nd time I have had problems with these companies. The bulb in our home theatre projector went out sept. last year and we had the problem below..

*******
Placed an order online for a new LCD projector bulb on Sept.16th. They charged my credit card for the bulb $330 however two weeks later no bulb has arrived so I inquired how much longer and received the following email...

====
Sorry about the delay for this order,but the manufacture has provided
me a eta of shipment to be 5-7 business days and that is also subject
to change due to high demand for this item,you will recieve an email
with comfirmation and tracking once the order has been ship out from
the deleivery service and again i do apoligize for the wait.
====

So with shipping it is going to take a month to get the bulb from when I placed the order... They should have sent me an email when I placed the order that it was out of stock and how long until they expected to get some more...
I don't think it's right to charge a credit card if they don't have the product in stock!
*******

Maybe I am just unlucky but it just sucks having to go through this bullshit every time we need to replace a tv bulb....

I've used nextdaydlp.com and been very happy. Small company in Iowa but they answer the phone, ship same day and have very competitive prices.

UPDATE:

Sent the bulb back, they tested it and confirmed the bulb was faulty.
Then they tell me the bulb is out of stock and its a two week wait until they get there next shipment from the manufacturer.
It's lucky this is not our only tv as bulb was ordered 11/27/2009 so its been over a month already without the tv working.

I guess one solution would be too always have a spare bulb on hand however what if the 2nd bulb you buy also fails when you install it...

Am glad our lcd flat screen tv's don't have those stupid bulbs.

It's not just tv ... I once owned some tire/auto centers. Our alignment machines would go thru bulbs like crazy. Nothing special about the bulbs except the bases were custom made just for the manufacturer.

This prevented anyone from locally and cheaply repairing the units. Instead we had to pay for, and wait for, a factory service tech that had a minimum hourly charge for time and travel as well as bulbs that were outrageously priced for what they were.

I think it is always best to contact by phone added to the commitment of paying over the internet.

This way, you can be ensured of shipping, reality of the business presence, stock & hearing quality service.

Most reliable companies answer the phone.

the 65" DLP? Is it a Mitsubishi? I have one and haven't had to replace lamps... but it would suck if I had to go through this.

It's a Toshiba...
The bulb lasted 4 years which is not bad at all.
I cannot how many hours the bulb life is supposed to be.

I used them also last year, and the bulb was cheaper there than other sources.
