NETbilling - New Fraud Control Enhancement

Posted here for our merchants that do not always read our newsletters but are on the boards and for those not a merchant yet who are interested as well....


Important Fraud Defense Enhancement

Almost all (98%) of our merchants use our Fraud Defense suite of protection tools which we provide to help stop customer fraud far beyond simple AVS (Address Verification) and CVV2 (The 3 or 4 extra digits added to a credit card to help verify a card present transaction). With 15 different tools, Fraud Defense suite has proven time and time again to save you money. No other payment gateway offers the same level or protection.

An important part of Defense utilizes both "public" (shared by all NETbilling merchants on the backend ) and "private" negative databases (independent of each NETbilling account). Previously, when utilzing the public and private databases, transactions would be scrubbed based on all fields in the databases including credit card numbers, email addresses, street addresses and IP addresses of any customers that had been entered into the dabases either manually by merchants or chargeback/dispute entries.

For more flexibility, step #1 in the Fraud Defense setup now gives you, our merchants, the ability to select or unselect any fields that you may want to exclude when we scrub your transactions. For example, you may want to utilize the public and private databases for all fields except email addresses. This is now easy selctable to your preference. To review and make any changes to your settings, please login to the NETbilling administration panel, and in the left hand menu, navigate to: Fraud Controls > Fraud Defense. From there, you will find the available field options.

The public databases only block exact matches, while the private database also allows you to speficy partial matching rules, such as blocking card number ranges (BINs), zip codes and host or email domains.
