Helping Haiti -- Sponsored by: WHY TRY TO GET COMPANY EXPOSURE WITH THIS?

Some of you make me sick. Why do you have to tote that your company is sponsoring Haiti support? Why can't you just put a link to pages you think are a good place for people to give money? Why capitalize on this tragedy? Shame on you.

I heard some companies give $50,000 to charity. And then they spend $50,000 on advertisements to tell everyone that they gave to charity.

Of course, if they give $100,000 to charity and spend no money on advertisements - then nobody would know they gave to charity.

(Assuming the mind readers who read people's minds don't exist.)

People you are GIVERS just give for the sake of giving. It's great they are giving, but it looks shallow and done without heart, when instead they are trying to get press to get their name out there. That is cheap.

You missed the point piss ant.

Haiti needs help. OK, send help. But why try to capitalize on their suffering? That is a douche bag (KB) move. Why do you need recognition for helping?

So, you'd have preferred they just put the page up, and NOT told anyone about it?

Some people are pissing and wailing because the NBA donated $1mil, the NFL donated $2.5mil and the NHL *only* donated $100k.

Who the fuck complains about shit like this? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it $100k more than they had before the NHL donated? And if you wanted to really get technical, why aren't these people complaining about the MLB not being mentioned at all? Doesn't their zero trump the NHL's $100k?

We have already raised over $20k in pledged support in the past 24 hours, wtf have you done? This is a call to action for our industry, nothing more, nothing less....troll

They are not the only ones. There was another thread I think yesterday where a company was using there name. It's tacky in such a situation.

Why can't it just be, "Check out AidHaitiRelief.Com - Calling the industry to arms!" instead of having to get their program name in there. It's low class for what it is for. It's saying, "hey look at us, we are trying to get our name out there so we are going to do press and attach our company name to this."

"Sponsored by CECASH" was not needed.

Who did? CECASH? You mean CECASH!

Better put out a press release saying how much you raised for this. You know you're going to so make it nice and juice when you do.

Hey, good job for getting money down there. Really. I mean that. For that I seriously commend you. I'm just saying it's tacky to try to get press out of it.

Again, I don't see the reason for them making a press release for it. Just give the money, no strings attached and no media. I don't understand the need to be recognized for giving. It makes me question if they would give otherwise.

Not going to get an argument out of me on that one. Needing recognition to donate is lame.

But of course the flip side of it is if it means more donations and more help because they get to whip their donating dick out and brag about how big it is, then its something worth tolerating.

When a business gives or raises money for charity, it is still business.

If a few people sign up to their program because they like the fact that the business raised the money or donated money that's just extra gravy on top.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a biz letting people know they are involved in the effort.

just my

Why does the US, Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc, etc say anything? Why don't they just do it?

They have an obligation to tell the people, because it is the people's money they are using to help with. But you don't see planes flying into Haiti with "Haiti Relief - Sponsored by the USA" painting on the side, or banners flying over tents, "Haiti Relief - This Tent Is Sponsored By The Salvation Army."

You may see their logos here or there to identify their property, but it is not to gain brownie points among the world.

The biggest givers in the world for any occasion are usually the ones you never hear about.

A real donation (read from the heart) doesn't expects gratification. Most donors will keep quiet about it.
The ones that make big fuss about it just want to get their name out there so we know
how kind hearted they are.
Hey look at me, look at me.

In some cases maybe, though I have worked for both the Peace Corps and the Red Cross, neither did it for brownie points. It was more of a territorial / property issue. This camp or area belongs to X and this one to Y. It is also a marker so the locals know where to get help and assistance. Many relief logos are known world wide or become known very fast among locals, even if they don't speak English.
