Pro Bowl before Super Bowl... WTF?

Does anyone find it weird that they are having the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl? Is this to try and get rating for the Pro Bowl? I don't get this decision... somebody enlighten me.

BTW... Saints are gonna take the Super Bowl...

The commissioner is trying all this shit to make football bigger but just like politicians they think they know what everyone wants and are destroying everything.

First each year there is more and more rules making football less enjoyable and more like a ref controlled sport just like basketball, he is trying to add more games to the year, he is trying to get a team in england, he put the pro bowl before the super bowl to try to get it more popular and worst of all took it out of Hawaii and put it in Miami where the super bowl is going to be and now both saints and colts players are being replaced by other people in the pro bowl because its before the superbowl. Worst of all 2010 will be the last year we will get to enjoy real compilation in the nfl. 2011 there will be no salary cap and team owns will lock out players or if they don't whatever teams have most money will get the best players.

I think it is all about ratings. Normally when the Super Bowl is over people kind of shut football off and forget about it. The pro bowl usually gets shitty ratings because people are out of football mode and don't care about a game that doesn't mean anything. So I think this year they want to give you some football to keep you happy while you wait for the super bowl. Of course the players hate it and are always trying to find a way out of it. They should just get rid of it. If they want to name a pro bowl team, cool. It is a good way to recognize the best players, but the game is useless.

And this year they are doing something that is world class stupid. The players that are in the super bowl won't play in the pro bowl. But the pro bowl players on the Saints and Colts will go for the introductions and stand on the sidelines for half the game. So the league is making them fly from their home city to Miami for the introduction. They will leave at halftime and fly back to their home city only to turn around and fly back to Miami with their team the next day. The league wants the whole team arriving at the same time. So these guys have to spend a bunch of time flying, when they could just be relaxing and enjoying the day and meeting their teams the next day in Miami.

I'm really baffled by this as well. Makes absolute no fucking sense. You are going to play the pro bowl without the players from the two best teams in the league? What the hell were these geniuses thinking?

the probowl has always been the joke of the nfl. it's not like other sports where the athlete can play at 100% with relative little risk of injury.

not so with pro football.

That's definitely the dumbest part of the whole plan. I can see a few more people watching it if it's before the superbowl, but the overall logistics of it and the fact that the probowlers from the two top teams won't be playing adds up to the nfl moving it back to it's original spot for next year.

Personally I've never watched it, and likely won't this year as well. If there was some way to make it less meaningless I might tune in.

Hey Einstien go back and look at previous pro-bowls. Over 90% of the players voted to the pro-bowl that played in the Super Bowl DID NOT PLAY in the pro-bowl that year.

I find it odd that this was announced almost a year ago or more and people think this is news.

I'll enlighten you. NO ONE watches the pro-bowl.

Anyways people need to quit bitching it goes back to the old way next year so chill. It was a one time experiment.

It's all about the money!

The NFL figures that by holding the Pro Bowl in the same location as the Super Bowl they can get some fat cats to spend more money for over a week.

For the fans it sucks, because players from the two best teams will not be able to participate (including the two best quarterbacks this year).

For the players selected it sucks, because they won't be getting paid to take a vacation to Hawaii - and what happens when the Super Bowl is played in a non-tourist friendly locale, or where the weather sucks in January?

No real football fans think for a moment that the Pro Bowl is anything more than an exhibition game to honor and showcase the best players.

I say, move it back to Hawaii...

the rules make it an even bigger joke- no zone d, no blitizing, no changing the offensive play after getting to the line of scrimmage.

has there ever been a highlight reel from a probowl game?

I consider myself a huge football fan, and I can say I have never seen a Pro Bowl. It always used to air at odd times where I lived because it was in Hawaii, but it is also because I really had no actual interest in it. I would just catch the highlights on sportscenter to see the nice catches and good runs and those 30 seconds of highlights were more than enough for me.

I agree with you that I think it will be back in its normal spot soon. Before a lot of the players would at least show up because it was in Hawaii and they got to hit the beach and have some fun and this year Miami is pretty cool, but how many pro bowlers will want to take their friends and family on a vacation to Dallas next year?

It's obviously better before the Super Bowl you idiots... no one gives a shit about the NFL after the super bowl, the super bowl is the last real game... so might as well place the pro bowl before it during the empty weekend instead of having it after the big game out in Hawaii where no one gives a damn about it.

I'm a huge football fan

I've watched it a few times. IF anyone hasn't heard the NFL has been claiming ownership of the Who Dat? Phrase and is ordering people to stop making shirts with who dat on it...
haha
Anyways since I'm a New Orleanian, Saints by 20

The Colts are going to so win that game. If you think the Saints have a shot you are dreaming. It's the easiest pic in years.

I believe I said the same thing about the Pats vs. Giants Superbowl a few years back lol!

Good for those rules, the pro-bowl ended Leroy Selmon's career about 4 years early.

I guess the MLB All Star Game, the NBA All Star Game and the NHL All Star Game are even more stupid since they are playing durring the regular season.

In last year's pro-bowl Kurt Warner threw all of 2 passes. I think playing in the super bowl the week before had something to do with that. So this year is different how? If you HONESTLY think that Manning and Brees would have played in the pro bowl had it still been a week later you're fucking high.

They aren't more stupid, they are probably just less stupid. Those games can be played without a serious concern for injuries. I actually thought it was a good idea when several years back they decided that the winner of the MLB All Star game would represent the home team in the world series. It made the game meaningful for once; though it probably wasn't fair to the team with the best record.

To me those all star games offer something the pro bowl doesn't. They offer a skills competition of sorts. The NHL has a skills competition. The NBA has the dunk contest and MLB has the home run hitting contest. Those are big part of these events.

Also, these are just different types of sports. They are lower contact sports. Half of the reason people watch football is for the big hits and QB sacks and those just don't exist in the pro bowl.

Personally, I wouldn't care if they did away will all of the all star games since I don't really watch any of them.

It must feel so cool to think you know everything, even when you don't...

After winning the Super Bowl in 2007, Peyton Manning played a week later in the 2007 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

The 2007 season was also Drew Brees' best season to date (the Saints lost in the NFC Championship to the Bears, the team the Colts beat in the Super Bowl), and Brees also played in the Pro Bowl that season (Brees dislocated his elbow in the 2007 Pro Bowl game).

Manning also owns most of the NFL Pro Bowl records for the QB position - but you already knew that...

Sure does.

ONE example? That's it? Funny how you don't even mention Kurt Warner only throwing 2 passes in the Pro Bowl LAST YEAR. You think that's what Warner fans paid good money for that year? To see him throw 2 passes then ride the bench the rest of the game?

Please go look over the past 10-12 years and tell me how many players that were on a Pro Bowl roster and also played in the Super Bowl also had significant playing time in that years Pro Bowl? 10% maybe 15%

Actually the Saints went to the NFC Championship in the 2006 season not 2007. In 2007 they went 7-9 and missed the playoffs. Brees had 6 weeks to rest. So WTF does that have to do with anything?

Well yeah he can play in all those pro-bowls since this is only his 2nd Super Bowl in 12 seasons. WTF does that have to do with anything? Seriously what does Manning playing in pro bowls in the years he's NOT in the super bowl have to do with the pro bowl rule of not letting players ACTUALLY IN THE SUPER BOWL play?

"It's all rumor," he said of reports that he wants to return.

As for the ensuing media storm surrounding the story, Favre said in a text message to the newspaper: "No reason for it."

Minte's brother: "Minte likes to fuck goats in the ass."
Minte: "I do not like to fuck goats in the ass."

Using YOUR logic you like to fuck goats in the ass.
I like how retards reply like they know everything and end up looking even more retarded when they're proven wrong.

Goodell likes new Pro Bowl date, could keep it

Posted: January 31st, 2010 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: 2010 Pro Bowl, Roger Goodell

The Pro Bowl will return to Hawaii next year, but it still might be held the week before the Super Bowl, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told the Miami Herald on Saturday.

?We have the option when we go back to Hawaii, we can do it before or after (the Super Bowl),? Goodell said. ?Here?s where I like it: I think you should stop or end your season when you reach the pinnacle. The pinnacle is the Super Bowl. I think it?s anticlimactic when you come back with the Pro Bowl the week after the Super Bowl.?

Traditionally, the Pro Bowl has been held the week after the Super Bowl, allowing players from those teams to participate. Goodell acknowledged that not having the Super Bowl players in the Pro Bowl is a ?negative,? but overall, he likes the new date for the league?s all-star game.

?It?s been great,? he told the Herald. ?We?ve had a terrific reaction from it. As you know, we have a sold-out crowd, so more people will be in the stadium. I think being here on the mainland has had some significant advantages. But we also love our relationship in Hawaii. The idea here is we?re trying to find every way to improve the game. We?ve got some things that are working here.
