More curious than anything... I am 37 years old and have not worked for "the man" since last year. I do all of my sites full time, 50 plus hours per week. And make my money exclusively through my concepts. All of which, is under an s-corp.

What percentage of people here do the same?

If I had to guess, I would say 1/4 of us are successfully self employed without need for outside help, ie. second job, fulltime job, etc.

Wow, cool, some of you have been doing your own thing far longer than me. You can probably relate to my mindset then. The more money I make, the more I want to work, I get paranoid that I am missing out on money if I am doing other things. Everyday is quite exciting for me right now... Yeah, I left my "real job" in August and haven't looked back. I know that my income will "peak" at some point, but fuck, what a fun ride this is, so far!!

I played music professionally from 1978 forward. Also had my own male strip show in the mid 90's and did pro wrestling on the indy circuit up until 2002. Yes, I did Fetish Parties before Adult. I had booked pornstars to headline my shows, seemed like the natural thing for me to do, after I got shut down. What do you play? Pro wrestling, that must have been a pretty cool experience. Do you still keep in touch with that crowd?

I hope to be soon, just filed papers for an LLC. Currently still working a 9-5 and would love to do something I enjoy. I do like the safety of knowing I have a pay check coming every week, health insurance, and vacation time...but being my own boss would be awsome. Luckily my wife has a good job so it helps a lot. I am also taking civil service exams...these jobs have the best benefits. I won't quit my day job until I feel confident I can make it...

We are now looking to buy some real estate and start a family but everything is just crazy expensive in the NYC/Westchester/LI areas where we want to live and the taxes are just insane. There is not much of a recession or house devaluation here.

So to live the lifestyle we imagine I need to become more successful with my online projects in the near future.

I lost my job at Oracle Corporation back in 2002. Being on your own is refreshing, but also stressful at the same time. I've forgotten what it's like to have co-workers. I like my independence... but I do miss having co-workers... on the other hand, I know I wanted to murder them sometimes.
