Lobster or King Crab?
I love lobster. I went to PEI this summer and had lobster at the fisherman's warf for some of the best lobster in the world, (all REAL lobster conesours KNOW about the fisherman's warf restrauant on Prince Edward Island) but tonight I ordered Alaskan king crab.
There's that extra special something about eating a meal that there's a VERY GOOD CHANCE someone may have given their life for.

Just for info sake the Alaskan King Crab fishery is probally the most dangerous job you can get. The fatality rate on the job is higher than smoke jumpers, aircraft carrier deck men, miners, or most anything else out there in peace time.

Crab fishing in AK is like The Perfect Storm except the water splashes over the deck of the boat and FREEZES!
I like lobster better but Im from AK and lobster is more "exotic" ;) This is the best place to order crab: http://www.newsagaya.com/index.cfm |

I have a good buddy that was a commercial fisherman in Alaska for many years, and he used to send me boxes of Alaskan King Crab, and Salmon.
The king crab is the best, with legs that were so big I could push my finger thru the narrowest end to get the meat out. But yes, fishing up there is quite hazardous. If you fall in the water there you had better hope someone gets you out very quickly as hypothermia sets in very fast in those waters The pay can be very, very good. Halibut season lasts for a day or two, but there have been catches where every hand on board made a couple hundred grand. Commercial fishing in Alaska ranks in danger right up there with working the graveyard shift at 7-11 or as a taxi driver, just better pay. |

Unfortunately commercial fishermen don't make money like that anymore. Cocaine plays a huge role in the fishing industry just like the oil industry. I always wondered how many deaths were caused by guys who were coked up for days with no sleep in horrible weather going overboard or getting tangled in nets.

I didn't say it had anything to do with the demise of the industry ;) In fact, coke was probably the major fuel, lol
Now they wont allow Alaska salmon to be labled organic! Ridiculous! |

Don't forget about stone crab. Gotta go to Joe's Stone Crab is Miami's south beach. The claws are as big as a softball.

Had an 18oz lobster tail this weekend. Only could eat about half of it. Was delicious!
