Ok this is the issue. I need to cut videos into pieces, one large movie has to be cut into pieces of three minutes per clip. This are dvd's so there are multiple models in one video file, and i have to cut out each model.

At the moment i am using sony vegas pro 8 with batch render script to cut each model into parts of 3 min.

then i am using sorenson to convert each movie in batch form to flv file.

I would like to shorten this process and also reduce cpu demand. i would like to out put flv files directly from sony vegas, but hso far i haven't been able to find a way to do so. i encode the wmv files at 3 mbps then i encode it with sorenson at 2160 kbps if i am correct, i would need to check those vauels, but something around that.

Who has any suggestion, the point is at encoding fast many videos and keeping the freedome to choose what to encode and what not.

as far as i know there is none for vegas, thats not to say there may be one in a new version, they added the mp4 in 2 or 3 versions ago so it may be next if the demand is high with FLV being the new thing and all.

the only advice i can give you for quicker conversions is if the videos are to big in size it will slow things down.

for example, standard tv quality is 640-480 and it takes longer to render the frames in NTSC (29.6 FPS), but if you already made those videos half size, so 320-280 and put them in PAL format (25 FPS) you cut down rendering time, as long as you keep the video quality high so the bitrate is high you will compensate for loss of quality due to size and frames.

not sure if the videos are in HD though but i guarantee that if you make the size in half but still look good at full screen cuz the bitrate is high you will slash rendering times dramatically in vegas and the the FLV convertor.

ok that might be something i can do. still want to make sure that they also look good when just streaming. so far my movies look pretty good, thats not the issue just speeding up the process is.

any one else has anything to say on this

is there a way to batch grab a 30 second sample from the middle of a scene, and do a bunch of scenes at the same time with vegas, or any other software?

what you have to is place a sort of mark at the start and the end of the 30 sec, i not sure any more how they are called, if you have more then one then you can batch render them with a script that you can find under tools. You do need vegas pro not any of the others, it won't work. if you need more help with that you can hit me up.

i don't have a mac and i don't think i will get one. however i do like final cut pro, just the mac is way to expensive, i can have killer pc for that price which i have, two of them.

Cut them into pieces with VirtualDub (free and damn quick) and then batch render then to flv with MediaCoder (free).
Or...use your Sorenson to batch render them to flv.

Everyone always mentions free encoders like MediaCoder. These give you poor FLVs because the codec they support is very old, dating back to Flash 6 days. This is the same for any app that uses FFmpeg for encoding.

If you want decent FLVs you need to pay for an encoder - at least for now, until and IF Google makes the codecs open source. Flix from On2 (now owned by Google) is one such program. Look for an encoder that supports VP6. A video encoded with VP6 will play back on Flash 8 or later. Nearly all FLV players require at least Flash 8, and the latest latest versions of the top-end players (JW Player, Flowplayer) require Flash 9 or above. VP6 videos have much better resolution than the older Sorenson Spark/VP3 vids.

I don't recall if the $40 Standard version of Flix does things in batches, but it might.

sorsenson is the best out there, cost 800 bucks but you really get something good, but it does consume a lot of cpu.

I made dont that much money but i am close to the 70k a year in euros, so i can't complaint. I know there are always those that do a lot better then i do, i will get there one day.
