.xxx back from the dead?

It appears ICM Registry won the Independent Review / appeal for the .xxx top-level domain, according to the tweet from ICANN CEO Rod Beckstrom a few hours ago:

http://twitter.com/RodBeckstrom/status/9356231982

I've not seen much else yet, so perhaps the journalists out there will do some work this weekend to see what's happening.

The appeal documents can be seen at:

.xxx will happen. so will .sex, .fuck, .ass, .tits...most of which will most likely go bankrupt..i wouldn't worry too much about it. since icann is opening the floodgates for .tld i don't see .xxx as much of a threat. more like just one among many.

Looks like there are more documents (including the "Declaration" of today) at ICANN's website, see:

Yup, the new ICANN gTLD program prepares literally hundreds of new gTLDs to be resealed. Personally, I think it will just make online mess and it's only made because someone is hungry for more $$$.
ICANN and Registrars to be clear.

I even posted a thread about this months ago.

most of the top .xxx names are already taken. Now whether icann will honor those sales if .xxx does go through is another story...

George- do you think that the .xxx extension presents as much of a ghettoizing risk as it used to?

XPays: I don't have a real feel for US politics. If the ICM Registry folks convinced politicians to mandate adult content be moved to .xxx, it would, as you imply, make it a lot easier to block (and give ICM Registry a big monopoly to tax adult webmasters). On the other hand, as the family groups argued, it might make it increase the supply or number of domains hosting adult content....

The new TLDs debate is still ongoing, and the Department of Commerce has an "affirmation of commitments" agreement with ICANN that requires economic studies, etc. be conducted before launching them.

http://www.icann.org/en/documents/af...30sep09-en.htm

However, ICM would be going through under the old procedure (same procedure that brought us .tel, .asia, .cat and other lame TLDs). It's a good time to be a lawyer or lobbyist (neither of which I am)! $$$$$$$$$$

As it comes up everytime, who is going to be the enforcement body and what standards would they follow? That's the reason it won't happen.

Does this mean I'm going to have to switch out all of my overpriced .tv domains?
