Has anyone ever sold a paysite concept?

I have a unique idea and corresponding domain (which I'm certain would stick in the surfers mind), but I'm an affiliate, and don't particularly want to get into production side of things (my bankroll isn't big enough even if I did).. So is it possible to sell an idea? Or will I just get ripped as soon as I share it?

Possible, yes. Plausible, probably not. An idea isn't worth anything unless executed. I've got a shit-ton of ideas that will all make money if executed. It's the execution that's worth something, not the concept.

yes, we did it three times, although for us it required to also add something else (design, content, marketing, etc) Dunno if someone will pay just for an idea, but just in case be sure to register it

Good or bad idea to start soliciting programs?

Yes, I just sold one today as a matter of fact. Contract signed, cash in hand.

Sent out a contact for another this morning.

As for advice... that is a conversation. A lot more than I could sum up in a post on a message board. I have been selling 'concept sites' for a few years now. It is not easy, but it can be done.

No one is going to purchase a concept or idea alone. Like someone else said, only execution matters. If you have a domain attached, and I mean a great one, not just a halfway decent one, or you have content attached, then sure you can sell. But I wouldn't expect a lot of money unless the domain or content is very valuable, brandable or unique.

Agreed to some degree.

I guess it depends on the 'concept'. If it is something they can easily bridge the concept, like a tube pay site, or like a cms that runs like this site example but... Then you stand a decent chance. However, the bigger the price tag the worse chance you have.

In this economy, and this state of industry, big ticket items in general are a tough sell. You are going to have to market your ideas over and over. Work out the presentation. It may take you 4-6 months to close if then.

As I said in my last post, it depends on a lot of factors. Too many too name, and not easy to sum up in a post, or few paragraphs. The 'concept' sites I sell are easy for people to see with no content or domain name. But I have also trial and error'ed the idea a lot of time, or at least part of it, to help sell the idea.

I have a gay site concept I have been working on that is incredibly unique and I have the domain and basic design to go with it, just no idea how to go about selling it. If someone wants to sell it for me I'll cut them in for a nice share of the profits.

The best thing to do, which I am currently doing, is partnering up with an existing program.

Although rare, there is still such a thing as "sweat equity." If you have more time than money, you need to find someone with more money than time. Finding that person isn't easy, but if you treat it as high priority and keep the thought of what you want to do in the back of your mind, it will come about.

Another advantage of doing it this way is your partner will likely have a lot more traffic than you, plus an existing affiliate network.

From the time I decided that I wanted to do it, to actually being able to do it, took a year. I talked to anyone that would listen.

I have a similar situation. Have a domain - developed as an affiliate site right now but pretty much how I would a paysite version to be.

I have been designing a new FUBAR webmaster site in my free time. I haven't told the owner (or anyone else up until now) but I saw him post a link recently and had all kinds of ideas on how much bigger and better it could be. If I ever get it done, I'll try to sell it to him LOL
