What diets and/or exercise have worked best for you??
I am getting married in May and I would like to try and lose about 25 pounds by that time.
I currently weigh about 195 pounds, which is very heavy for me. I uses to be able to stay at around 165-170...but lately I havent been staying very disciplined. So, im wondering...what diets and/or exercise have worked best for you guys?? Do you have any suggestions for me to help me successfully attempt to lose that much weight in the next 3 months? |

i've recently lost 25 pounds, it's not difficult to do.
the basic formula never changes- you have to consume less calories than you expend. the easiest way is to cut calories enough to lose weight, easy because you don't have to fiddle around with supplying yourself enough nutrients and cals to exercise. the downside is this isn't the healthiest not the wisest, long term. more difficult is to create a program that has you eating more but including exercise, but healthier and much better than the above. if you can work out at home i would recommend p90 or p90x. if you are working out at the club i would suggest a program similar to one of these- http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/newyearsguide.htm |

good info there and the workouts are pretty easy to do even if you are traveling. Additionally, you don't need a ton of equipment

I've tried a variety of sensible and not so sensible diet regimes, and the only one that works? Reasonable portion sizes of good food. Eat at home, not out. If you're going to be stuck "out" then pack a lunch or a snack so you won't be tempted until you get home to your good food. Take time to make your food so you appreciate it more.

Pretty simple to lose the weight. Start sweating and eating natural foods. natural meaning it was living at one time, plant, vegetable or animal. Stop eating things from packages and processed nonsense. Eat fibrous foods that will get you regular and shiating the excess garbage you are storing. Oh and start exercising, running, walking, weights etc. get a sweat going. Weight training is good since you'll get harder and your muscles will burn fat while you are resting.
I don't recommend trainers because 95% of them want to juice you of your money. Make friends with someone at a gym - someone who has the type of body you'd like to shoot for. Ask for a tip or two over time, or offering to buy them a protein shake at the end of their workout. You can make new friends, pass the time by quickly, get free knowledge and start getting results.

i did a bit of the math for you,
25 pounds of fat = 87,500 calories. you need to burn 975 extra calories daily to hit your goal in 90 days. so if you are 30 year old male, 195 pounds is ~ 2200 calories needed daily for maintenance, your target should be 1100 calories daily. you can do that by eating only 1100 calories, or by eating 1600 calories and doing 500 calories of exercise, etc. |

Thanks guys...most of this was fairly helpful.
I suppose there are some very obvious ways to go about losing weight...and I know those always work. I just thought it might be cool to see what other people out here are doing and if there might be something new and cool I havent tried yet. I'll definitely take a bit of advice from each of you and see how I can apply it. Thanks again! |

I used to do a do a fairly decent morning cardio exercise up until about 3 months ago...then my work schedule changed pretty dramatically and I dont really have much time to exercise in the mornings anymore. As far as my diet goes...its not too bad actually. I typically eat very healthy foods, but my main problem lately is that I am ALWAYS hungry! I tend to eat lots of salads, fruits, chicken, sushi. I dont eat very much red meat or dairy at all. The main thing is my portions are kind of larger and I always seem to be hungry again shortly after eating a large meal. Any ideas?? |

hunger is a state of mind. it goes away when you think of something else and in the case when your body really is hungry, a small snack or meal is plenty. you can satiate hunger with 250 calorie snacks and sub500 calorie main meals, i do it all the time, every day. if you are serious about losing 25 pounds of flab in 90 days you are going to have deal with feeling hungry, it's not a biggie. |

I have been losing weight. Not much as I just started 15 days ago but I cut out soda pop. 120 calories a can adds up so by removing those 500-600 calories a day from my diet it is starting to have an effect. The best part is that it is pretty much painless. I notice that I get hungry during the day but usually just that last hour to 90 minutes before the next meal. Obviously before I would have grabbed a can of mt dew and kept going and now I drink a glass of water and live with it.

one quick way to reduce calorie intake for some is to drop the liquid calories. Between colas, juice, alcohol, and such, it's not uncommon for people to be drinking 1000 calories a day.

![]() I *hate* exercising, but this program kept me motivated. Like I say - we followed it religiously for the first 2 months, then slowly started slacking off cuz we were happy w/ the results. Highly recommend it! Quote:

so this year i dieted 1st, now my bf is 11% as i go into a p90x plan, goal is 8-9% bf. it is a ridiculous amount of exercise, that's why the cals can go down the hatch and fat is still lost. i really think my earlier post suggesting this program is the best way to go, assuming the level of ability allows for an immediate start eh. |

daily calories intake cut it in half... 2000 calories and 500 fat calories stay under that, trust me its hard at first but once you figure out what not to eat ie candy bars, mcds, bk, pizzas, etc... it becomes easy. also cut out soda and juices with over 10g sugar per bottle. i eat about 1500 cal and around 300-400 fat cals a day. 15min workout a day, pullups, pushups and situps on a yoga ball. its a regular thing for me everyday so once you get a set routine down and just check the cals on food prior to eating you should be fine.
