Connecting A PS3 To A Computer Monitor

Google did me no justic. It's all jargon to me, or people asking me exactly what I want to know.

I bought myself a new monitor, which I connect to my laptop (with a wireless keyboard and mouse) to work.

This is it here:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/d...V583AA%2523ABA

I would like to purchase an old school ps3 (not the slim shit) and connect it to that to play. Is anyone familiar with the process? Is it possible with this kind of monitor?

I appreciate any help.

You can get a PS3 vga cable or even connect via HDMI if your monitor has a port.

Not sure why you'd want on old PS3 but anyway you need a DVI-HDMI adapater. Of course you won't have sound. You got a NEW monitor that doesn't have HDMI?

I like the slickness of the old model PS3's. When it comes to things that look sleek and modern, I'm all over it.

I was at walmart and bought the monitor for $150. It's better than a laptop monitor for sure.

The older models are also able to run Linux, are backward compatible with PS1/2, have all sorts of ports that have been removed on the newer models and they're easy to crack open and swap out the HDD.

What would the best bet be for me to do? Obviously return the current monitor (bought it about a week ago). Can anyone point me to the correct monitor? Don't know exactly what I'm looking for.

I appreciate the help, again. I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff.

Not all the "fat" PS3 can play PS2 games. In fact very few can. ALL PS3s can play PS1 games. How many peole care about Linux? Not many ports have been moved. Yes 2 USB ports instead of 4. For $10 you can get 4 port USB sub. Big deal. And you can swap out the HDD on the slims too. In fact it's actually EASIER. You're not going to find a old PS3 that plays ps2 games for very cheap and you'll have to get it on ebay. If you like to play online you better hope the console wasn't already banned. Oh by the way PSN is currently expericning issues that effects only the old PS3s.

It seems that a major worldwide firmware bug has affected most PlayStation 3s, preventing the consoles from connecting to the PlayStation Network and in many cases (including our own) not allowing for offline game play. The problem, whatever it is, compromises all PS3 consoles aside from the newer PS3 Slim.

Get a monitor with HDMI if you want to use it for a PS3. Why not just hook it up to a TV?

Bummer. Maybe I should go for a slim then, but I would still like to connect it to a monitor.

Remember that monitors do not have speakers as mentioned above. Then you need to connect the sound (via optical) to speakers/sound system.

Actually, the monitor I have (link in first post) has integrated speakers, but I do have an alternate external set aswell.

And what would this mean?

HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) Support for HDCP enables the monitor to display HDTV resolution if connected by the DVI connector. A monitor without HDCP support, or connected by analog VGA, causes the displayed video to be downgraded in quality to a DVD-like resolution that is less than HDTV.

HDCP is also a content protection system. The goal of HDCP is to prevent transmission of non-encrypted high definition content.

About my monitor.

It's the old PS3s that aren't able to get online right now too.

That's the big deal: I have the new PS3 and had to keep my PS2 to play my older games (I have a PSP too, for when I'm on the road);

The PS3 can hook up to my 24" desktop monitors with HDMI, but I have it on the big screen out front (52" with HDMI) and it kicks ass.

The viewing experience really does justify the cost of a nice display

Read some more on it, apparently DVI would be better than VGA. So what I'm looking for now is I guess a HDMI to DVD-D cable, the only thing is that all this male and female shit for pins is confusing.
