How many of you don't have insurance?

Just curious. I do, and a pretty damn good one.

Health insurance?

I'm ineligible because of my pre-existing condition. I have a debilitating, incurable disease that causes me a lifetime of misery. Since insurance companies know going in that they will not profit off me, they are not required to cover me. At some point insurance companies stopped being in the insurance business.

What kind of? If health insurance, there is no way around it here, I have to pay it. I think its $30-40 a month or so. Everything is included, though, surgeries, hospital stay, etc etc.

I had other insurances, too, until I found out they are all a rip-off...if something happens, they try to find a way not to pay shit anyway. Then its better for my wife to have the money on the bank account.

In Europe. From what I know its free here everywhere. But there is still some amount you have to pay when working. Some countries cover it in higher taxes, some call it insurance directly.

I have anthem blue cross when I first got it it was $238.00 a month now I'm paying $315.00 a month next month when I go for renewal it will go up once again! This don't include my two kids insurance.
But it's worth it, I have some medical problems now, possible leukemia or the like of, had a bi-op done waiting on that to get back, have to go for a cat scan Thursday for chest,ab's,pelvic then on top of all that my liver is fucked. It was high 4 months ago at a alt of 58% now last week it went to a alt of 95% So it's def worth paying the insurance bill.

My girl has a killer plan that covers the entire family and we don't have to pay much for it. Her employer foots most of the bill.

In California, our insurance commissioner thinks he is being a hard-ass by saying that insurance companies are obliged to spend 70% of premiums on healthcare. I'm sure I'm far from the best business math guru on GFY, but I can do the math that that means insured healthcare is marked up 30% over just getting taken care of.

No, I do not have health insurance. Because I am capable of basic math skills. Insurance is a scam.

Remember that in the US, insurance companies make their money on stock market investments, therefore, it's in their interest to have the highest premiums possible. They would rather take in 500 and pay out 450 than take in 200 and pay out 100, since they had more money to invest. I've been paying my own since I started working for myself in 1995 and it has gone up incredibly. I'm due for my annual review in June and I'm sure they are going to hit me hard with an increase cause I'm 51. Prime getn' sick age!

I use to have that frame of mind, until a friend fell in a coma.

Spend a few months in a coma and you might wake up to find it wasn't only your savings you were gambling with but your house, your parent's saving, their house and the savings of just anybody who loves you enough to keep you alive

We have home insurance and a seperate policy for home emergencies such as the toilets or windows being broken, a travel insurance policy, personal life insurance & accident cover & of course car insurance which is crippling at present at £1500 a year!

At the moment we do not have business insurance as no one is going to insure the dv tapes dues to not knowing the value.... A pain in the arse if there was a fire here. I have to store them somewhere else sooner or later.

The odds of spending a few months in a coma are very minimal. I don't think I've ever met anyone who has been in a coma and I'm including the most tenuous levels of acquaintance i.e. like not even one of my 60k MySpace friends.

The odds of growing elderly in America without enough money are pretty likely. I've known a lot of people over the years who did well for a while, but did not have enough for their old age to be really comfortable. So I'd like to invest my money in my business, and prepare for the otherwise likely circumstance, not gird myself against the very unlikely, at the expense of my future.

Again, this is basic math.
