				 | Don't do it. You'll fall in love with it, and become a fanboy who wonders why you didn't make the switch years ago. Don't put yourself though the grief of realizing all the years you have wasted on the PC.

				 | you should. with bootcamp if you need to do heavy duty lifting on pc side. Or vmware/etc. when you need to run pc stuff virtually. hell with vmware you can image your current pc and have it booting with vmware fusion on your mac.

Got meself a macbook after a shit-ass Vaio crashed. At first just used it for shits and giggles, it was sitting next to my main big screen. Then I got Coda (FTP, SSH, remote editor). And BBedit (local editor). And Navicat (remote SQL management). And this thing has an actual shell built in. So it's like using a desktop version of Unix that doesn't give you grief every time you try to do something. Fuck that Microsoft crap. I now only use my windows machine as a jukebox and to run bots coded in visual studio.

				 | My business partners use macs, and they sometimes bring up I need one; I'm using a PC running ubuntu, with three VirtualBoxes of windows for testing IE6, IE7 and IE8. If anyone can figure out how to realistically emulate those MS browsers in one install, I'd love to hear it. However, I have never liked Apple, other than the Apple IIe, which rawked. Safari sucks. iTunes sucks. The fucking "shiney" marketing sucks (but works with the trendy / moron crowd. The only Mac users I like, or trust, are those who don't constantly get all giddy when an apple drops from a tree of conversation. If you go to Mac, please don't turn into some "I love my mac" person.

				 | Hahaha. I saw the pic of your mini dell running osx next to a starbucks cup. That was precious. I might try it at some point on the mini, but my main laptop's not switching anytime soon. I'm a stubborn bastard, and just see no reason to switch and get used to a new OS. So I guess, go forth switchers to apple and have fun.

The Dell Mini 9 and 10v are the absolute easiest to install OSX on. Run a boot disc in your DVD drive and then install as if it were an Apple product. It's more than a novelty now. | |

				 | Do it fris. You will love it. But I would max it out. I started with 2+ years ago & never looked back. I bought parallels thinking I would need PC every now & then, but the only thing I really use it for is to make sure pages look ok on IE. There's nothing a PC can do that I can't do (EASIER) on my macbook. |

				 | Go ahead, grab a mac, you'll love it for a while because it's all new and shiny then realize that Apple doesn't know how to write software, all their apps suck, it only does about 80% of what you want it to with no options to make it do what you want... I have an 8 core mac pro and a mac book pro... I also have Windows machines and I run Linux for all my servers... Mac sucks, sorry fan boys... the thing they do best is form factor and they are GODS at form factor. Nobody touches them, IMO... However, functionality wise... way too limiting. The amount of apps is much smaller, their feature sets are smaller, and don't even THINK about running Adobe Suites on mac they fucking suck. Adobe can't program a native app to save their life. Everything runs way way way faster on a PC (adobe wise)... even with near identical hardware Windows smacks it down. This isn't Apple's fault at all, this is just Adobe being teh suck... So yeah, switch if you want to! There's really no benefit... I can't stand the way OS X places (still) the bar at the top of ONE of your monitors... I run 2 30s on my OS X box so if I want to access a menu sometimes I have to mouse all the way over to the other monitor up to the top... may be a little thing but it annoys the shit out of me, I like my controls to be attached to the window, not the desktop (causing it to change every time you change apps)... that's lame... With more and more people using multiple monitor setups this UI decision is outdated. However it's part of the Mac "core philosophy" so... Any way that's my two cents... iWork sucks, it's a half ass Office and you'll want Office anyway since real businesses use DOC, XLS, etc... so yeah, you'll need to buy all new licenses for anything you use regularly. Don't even bother with open office or one of those free ones, they're HORRIBLE...

Adobe products will RUN fine but if you're a designer and you're dealing with large files, every single operation takes longer... filters and effects can take forEVER to process... Not to mention they don't even have standard hotkeys across their apps and they break Apple's own best practices guidelines by doing lame things like changing the global "hide app" shortcut in Illustrator ... but not Photoshop ... granted you can change these but I'm just using that as an example :P One more thing I'll add is the obvious hardware cost and the fact that their hardware is closed so the options are microscopic when compared to a PC... and the cost is absolutely ridiculous...
