Even Porn Stars Get the Recession Blues

Even Porn Stars Get the Recession Blues. Interesting article.

I have worked in porn through many recessions and it's always been recession proof, sales held and girls were phoning all day to get work. This recession is different and the porn industry is unlikely to recover after it ends. Unless we have a big rethink of what we are doing or BW charges go back to 20 cents a GB.

Sales have certainly slowed down. Micro niche is the only thing that has helped keep our sales alive through this.

Diversification is key now, too.

New ideas for unique custom content are crucial.

The problem is getting people to pay for it. Or affording to shoot it yourself. Unique is tough because if you can shoot it today so can 1,000s of others. Or they think they can. So you have to put into the scene something they can't. Easier said than done.

Content stealing and recession = not a good combo

As an industry we canīt do much about the recession, but stopping the content stealing is in our hands.

If our company owned content, then we would be hunting down content stealing sites and their owners.

Why donīt content owners "en masse" do this?

Because you end up spending a lot of money chasing your tail to stop it being viewed by people who would never buy in the fist place. The Tube sites will always be backed by big sponsors so they aren't going anywhere.

The solution is to make members area fit the needs of customers and not rely on the dream of surfers having no options but to buy. Never going to happen.

Or hosting cost to go back to 20 cents a GB, which is another thing which will never happen. I bet all those who were ecstatic when hosting costs plummeted, did not realise all it would mean is more free content to tempt buyers away.

Because they simply do not care or don't have any cash left to prosecute

Good article.
Yeah there was way too much content being shot from 2005 to 2008.
Fighting through a glut right now.
The dumping of content on the market seems to be leveling off.
Have to shoot something different or at least with a different look.

I already explained why.

Add to it this. If you succeed in getting your content taken down there's still 1,000 of sets and videos from other producers still up.
