With all this frush about tube sites...

Do you really think they can be making any money? I don't see how a few AFF ads and Adbrite spots are making enough to cover their costs combined with their Alexa.

They attract the lowest form of surfer that refuses to pay too.

I don't think it will be long before they are all gone.

Jay, their status isn't as important as their existence.

Site owners lose sales because of the volume of free product and the surfers develop the free habit.

Content producers feel like they were mugged.

well said, they contribute to the devaluing of the whole industry by teaching the average surfer that the product shouldn't be paid for

if their getting 1mil uniques a day, and 1 person in 20k uniques signs up for AFF, they make somewhere around 50 sales at $95 a pop thats $4750/day. that turns into $142,500/month and if bandwidth costs are in the $??,000 price range they still make profit.

now thats just speculation i don't know how their ratios are or how much that type of bandwidth costs. but i imagine they must be making some kind of dough if their sites are still up.

Nah, that would never happen. You have to remember that people that don't want to pay for anything, are underage, or might night even have a credit card are their primary customes.

Well you have a tube site, albeit one that doesn't steal content. Clue people in on the statistics than. Seems to me that the majority of them would be making money, even from seeing the ones on sale here. I'd be surprised if youporn BW bill is more than 120k a month (their stated income), especially when (unless I am mistaken) I have seen bulk deals for BW from good providers such as PacificRack as low as 0.04 per GB.

nah man i don't agree with you at all. torrent sites make dough all day selling aff and everyone who comes to that site is looking for free shit. even if 75% of megarotics traffic is worthless, which i don't think it is, 25% of an alexa rank 37 site is still a shit load of traffic to work with. same thing goes for the other big tube sites.

porn and dating sites aren't the same thing. you can get free porn all day but you can't get free online dating access. which is why i believe it sells so well and porn has been doing so shitty.

The BW gets expensive - there is not question about that. I've done a lot of things to refine my traffic more than most but the margins are much narrower than blogs, linklists, and TGPs.

With all the freeloading traffic and bandwidth costs...I think the average guy is thinking that he will start some massive site that hemorges money for a few years and then some price charming internet company will come alond and swoop it up for a coupe million.

I say that is the business plan.

Thats what happend in germany a lot this year. Investors where buying those web 2.0 communities/tube sites like mad and they still continue buying!
So if you have a good summary and a good financial plan, then your still able to make a shitload of cash over here.

I know one of the owners of youporn basically stated that as his aspiration, but I think a lot of people think if they establish themselves now by giving away lengthy videos to attract viewers (even if they only break even with the BW expenses), they can slowly reduce the length of the clips, etc in order to reduce costs and retain the same viewer base. Will be interesting to see where it leads though, it's obvious that the 10-20 second MGP clips are long behind us, and however this pans out at the end of it surfers are going to be used to getting much longer, and many more clips for free in the future.

Unless those guys are slinging some retardedly priced ad slots, there is no way they are making money,

I don't disagree with your last comment, I think the users of these tube sites are much like torrent users. Loyal in one sense, but the minute the torrent site goes down or stops allowing certain content they jump quickly a new site and forget about the last one just as quickly. But what I meant by my post, was I get the feeling through talking to people that alot of those jumping out there to start similar sites have the feeling they can do as I mentioned.

But if you do look on etology there ad spots on these sites aren't exactly going cheap, though you have more knowledge than me in this field. I don't know if you will, but if you don't mind do you mind sharing how much BW you are using per k of visitors in comparison to the money you are earning, or what, from your experience in the field, you'd expect these sites to be burning BW wise. I don't see how a site the size of youporn can stay afloat unless it is at least breaking even. Alot of the people starting these sites (including youporn) don't strike me as the people able to bankroll a site loosing thousands per month.

I think the king of all tube sites, youtube.com is doing just fine.

As far as the adult tube sites, I think if they were losing money, they'd already be gone.

I think there are lots of people that are willing to pay, but only if they have to.
TGP's for instance send alot of joins, and they give away free content. The surfers there start out looking for something free, and then find something they like enough that they want to pay more for, or get frustrated by the small free samples and pay to get full movies and picture sets.

If the TGP's were giving away full length movies, they wouldn't be sending joins anymore.
Most of these tube sites are giving away the steak and hoping you buy some steak sauce.

The owner of the largest one admitted that the site loses money, and that their goal is only to build up traffic and then sell the site, they have no interest in figuring out how to monetize the traffic.

Youporn tried to sell to Vivid for 20 million, legal concerns and no real revenue potential killed the deal.

The people using torrents were doing it because they had the time and not the money. Everyone can use pornotube, youporn, megarotic without taking any time or knowing jack shit.

I understand why youporn is in business, they want to sell, don't care about hurting the industry.

What I don't understand is why AEBN is doing it. They are hurting the studios that supply their lifeblood.

They are also hurting the webmasters that live off of selling porn.

The only people really making out in all of this are the dating sites.

AEBN and YouPorn have publicly said that the sites break even, they don't make a ton of money on them.

Oh you know this as fact do you? or you read it in that article which was likely a huge load of BS.

Ofcourse tubes make money, plenty of smaller tubes make about 40% profit with 60% on bandwidth this is the same for myself and lots of others you see for sale. There is no reason the same wont apply to big ones like youporn, redtube etc. And megarotic, well if anyone doesnt think they are raking it in from subscriptions there a fool, just to upload content to megarotic you need to subscribe let alone watch.

Hey, I figure it like this :

There are going to be tube sites because it is just the way things are going.
Maybe in a year or two something will replace tube sites, but it'll probably be just a "suped up version" of tube sites.

I did the whole song and dance : changing to whatever the "next big thing" was. This kept my small sites alive while I watched other peoples small sites die. If you're the hun then you don't care; if you're "the none" then move with the flow before you go out of style.

Conclusion:

- Bandwidth is only going to get cheaper
- Bigger pockets and bigger budgets will enter the game
- People like TV and are fucking lazy

Therefore the format to ultimately win the game is "one click, sit back and watch". The big pockets are eventually going to dump millions into content and bandwidth and supply this format. The new surfer will get used to this and will not want to surf text tgp's etc... Meaning that if your site does not come somewhere close to this winning format then you are not going to have a chance in hello of getting a surfer to click and bookmark.

Regarding tube site conversions:
I changed tgps to tube sites and this is what I have:

occash BEFORE I went tube: 1:5021

occash AFTER I went tube: 1:1196

Taken from the same number of months.

If I'd put some effort into ads and banners then I could cut that ratio down even further.

Oh YEAH, keep in mind that my tube ratio has blind links like "view main site" on the page 60 times!!!

Not the end of " all of us" but the end of you.

You are a fat dinosaur, your site will be seeing decreasing returns over the next couple years. I predict in 3 years the traffic to your site will be total trash (100x worse than it is now) and the volume will be so low that you wont be able to sell your gallery spots for more than a fraction what you charging now.

Hey Scotty want to see something funny, go to Alexa and compare the traffic for : ( use the chart where you can plot them all at the same time)

megarotic.com
youporn.com
pornotube.com
puretna.com
sleazydream.com

Set it to display for the past 3 years.

Notice the first 4 sites going " up! up! up! " Look at how they have passed your site by in less than 1 years time. Now look at your site. Those other sites give away full length 1 hour long videos. Your sorry ass outdated site gives away a couple 30 second clips. Who do you think the surfer is going to keep going back to ??? Also notice you bros over at AFF are all over all of these sites, yes your bros who you blow are the main funding source that is allowing these sites to exist. The same sites that will put you out of business. how "bro-onic".

No need to reply moron. Just call me an IDIOT! and keep your head in the sand. Can't wait to see where you are at in 3 years. You can only ride the wave so long, the internet changes if you get your ass out of 1997 and to 2007 you might have a chance. But i doubt you will, you are like a stuffed pig, happy with your little cash cow and you going to milk it dry before you realize it was time to envolve instead of spending all your time going to webmaster shows and trying to be cool. " Look at me I own a TGP" wont be so cool in a couple years when people reply, " WTF is a TGP ? "

In summary, keep up the good work IDIOT!!!!!

lets hope so, unless some adult ad companies start buying out advertising with them

I know you are too lazy to check so I took a screen shot for you:

The 3 sites shooting up, thats your new competition. Well not fair to them to say you are their competition. You are really like a flea on their ass. The line that is slowly declining, thats you.

Keep up the good work smart ass!

It's not against the law but you have to have a "German" suited version that is all soft in the free tour..

There were first cases when Mannesman Arcor (IP provider) blocked certain sites..

My goal is to be the LARGEST ADULT TUBESITE network on the net.

The people doing it now wont have a fucking chance. The BP4L is taking over.

as I mentioned in the other thread, I believe they can make like 10 - 20 grand / month after all and fuck the real online marketers over for about a million worth of revenue..

It's a total myth that the traffic is junk, it is the ONLY alternative for the junk traffic to see some good shit easily and fastly without having to download over p2p networks etc. but it's also a very easy and fast jerk off solution for those who already paid for sites before... they can even find the same content there!

Like you grab a hot dog if you are hungry you don't need a super steak.. and you will eat way too much hot dogs if they will be for free..

For example www.filecabi.net makes that too and doesn't need to steal the hell out of anyone.. just keeps the site clean and interesting..

Yeah, Sleazy is probably making more money off his site than those 3 combined though.
