How long should a server Reboot Take?

I have been trying to get my server company to reboot my server for 8 hours now (from the time the first responded to the problem) Yet this have still not done it, so I was wonder what is average time for a reboot 24hour, maybe 72hours, Hell why not take the whole fucking Week

It should be well within 15 minutes, or, if your host provides Remote Reboot like we do, you can even (should you so desire) click your mouse and have it done instantly.

Let me know if I can help with anything!

Sometimes I wish I could physical put my foot right up some of these mother fuckers asses

Definitely not an acceptable time frame, since they've responded it should have happened shortly after that. What exactly was the response? "I'll get back to you"?!?

Are you sure it's just a simple reboot, perhaps there's other issues that are stopping it from coming back up cleanly...

Tough no more new adult, we offer remote reboot ( http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=70) thru web interface.
Otherwise, a ticket will get you a reboot within 15 minutes ( time to walk to the server ...).
If there is a reboot issue ( HD, power supply, etc ) client is notified right away.

You should look to change host .

He meant a FSCK (file system check). I think he was just mistyping it as "fdisk" - possibly due to being trapped in a wormhole to Windows 98 land. Noooooooo!!!! We must save our comrade!!

I should mention I have my servers at DWHS and they monitor it for me and reboot it automatically. To be honest in 5 years I have never had to call in for a reboot. I had a server crash and they restored the same day back ups within a maybe 5-10 hours and I was live again.

Wow, I can't believe nobody caught my horrible late night fail.

fdisk is a *nix command typically used to check drive/partition structure on a server, a la "fdisk -l"

The dated windows disk checker is "chkdsk"

I'm starting to question 5 hours energy now....

we are pushing 11 hours now, all they said was "it will be rebooted shortly" and that was like I said 11 hours ago.

Of course I sent them a few e-mails about all of this LOL

But they have not responded in the 11 hours now, I guess no one is at the location the server is to hit the button on it (or what ever is involved)

Have you followed up with them? It is entirely possible they rebooted and there was a failure that they did not notice. Or can you tell nothing has been done?

Why did you need a reboot anyways? Servers shouldn't need reboots under normal operation other than OS updates

Well I added a new script from a well known company a few days before, and it had just started yesterday to get some users online at one time.

I assume the problem is in the script, or how the scrip works with the server setting Ect..........

Of course I can not disconnect this newly added just released script from my system to test my theory until these fuckers get the server working so I have access to it

What if you make a new ticket? Do they respond in that one?
What about calling them or emailing their management team or emailing a representative you may have worked with in the past?

Thax But its down again now, and I guess this whole mess can start all over again. My host are not very responsive in peek user times as they are overseas I guess, but this stuff is not working for me.

I could pay less for the same servers someplace else I used these guys because i thought the could handle a site like mine.

I am going to have to do something soon, I can not have my site doing down every fucking 10 hours and take 15 hours each time to bring them back up (or at least loss the peek of the fucking day)

I need better support, this is ridicules, How many hours do you think it will take to get a response this time?

Maybe I should transfer this server over too you? Just the one the scripts on for now, you seem to be around in the middle of the day. But you would need to know how to deal with these script/severer set-up issues their are lots of them.

Also we will need to max out the Ram for this server just for starters....

if still isnt up, hit your dc to setup kvm
