British Car Invasion and I've got pics!

Went to a British Cars only car show last saturday and wasn't expecting much mainly because I hadn't thought about what cars were British made. Turned out to be plenty of very cool cars and I was pleasntly surprised. I can't remember the last time I saw something like an MGB on the road so it was nice to see there were still a few around. There were also a few very rare cars which I was glad to see and photograph.

There are quite a few car experts here and a few Brits as well but I bet you guys can't identify them all

too bad the british car industry died a horrible slow death between 1945 and somewhat in the 1980ies. Morgan is the only original british car manufacturer left and their cars still look like from before WWII - even the Aero

There was a gentleman there that had five or six Morgans including these two which retain the same design form despite being about 40 years apart just as you out pointed out

Not sure of the exact models but:

1. Marcos (but could be TVR)
2. Aston Martin
3. Sunbeam Tiger
4. Jaguar S Type
5. Looks Italian rather than British, but I think it could be a Gordon Keeble
6. Crap Audi TT and Loverly Lotus Elise
7. Morgan Aero
8. MGA
9. Jag E Types sandwiching MG Midget
10. Jag or Alvis
11. Austin 7

A nice collection though.... That Morgan Aero would look nice on my Drive!

1. is certainly a Marcos.
5. is not a Gordon Keeble, and I haven't worked out what it is. Not Peerless, not Gilbern, could be Italian as you suggest but there's no recognisable badge.
10. Going by the leaping motif, a Jaguar of some sort, SS100 or SS Jaguar perhaps.

You almost got them all

2. is in fact an Aston Martin DB9

10. is a 1948 Jaguar MK 4

11. is a 1936 Nippy Austin 7

Most of the cars are easily identifiable as I left the name plates in the pics but #11 and #5 were meant to stump you.

That leaves #5 and your observation that it looks Italian is very keen and on the right track however this was a British Cars only show so it's British made.

Hell - That 1948 Jaguar Mk 4 is so like the Alvis TA14 - maybe because they shared the same coach builder - mulliner...

#5 - The design clues point to something between peerless/gordon gt/gordon keeble - but there again could be Bristol Zagato or AC Greyhound.. A nice car, whatever it is..

Going by the bonnet bulge and the shape of the front wheel arch 5. looks to be Triumph TR4 - based, it certainly looks very Michelotti, but I don't know what exactly - some kind of special?

There never was such a car as a Mk 4 Jaguar BTW, in the same way there never was a Mk 1 - it was only given the name retrospectively after the Mk 2 came out. The Mk 4 is the name given to the SS Jaguar after SS Cars changed its name to Jaguar.

You are close enough to get #5

It's a 1962 Triumph Italia 2000

I'll be the first to admit I know little about these cars and I'm learning as I go. That's what this thread is about for me. All the cars had a sheet giving the owners name, year, make and model. I try to take note as I go and put a name to the cars but miss many of them.

I called the Jag a MK 4 because that's what it's tag said and when googled it confirmed it. Of course the vanity plate isn't the last word as people switch them around but it was a starting point. Whatever it is it had a monster set of headlights

There were two other cars there that require a keen knowledge of British cars to identify.

This car which I was told is very rare...

12.

and this car which the owner swore was British made but had everyone there scratching their heads

13.

1935 Austin with info sheet

Jag with tag

12.

That's a Swallow Doretti. The company that became Jaguar Cars started out as Swallow Sidecars, then became SS Cars, then of course after WW2 didn't want to remind people of the German SS so renamed itself after its last model, the Jaguar. But Swallow Sidecars had split from the business years before, and ended up producing this car. Think this again is Triumph TR based.

No idea on this one, possibly a Vauxhall of some sort if it actually is British.

#12 is a 1954 Swallow Doretti

You certainly know your British cars

#13 is not a Vauxhall. This car was made in the UK but it's roots come from somewhere else

You certainly know your British cars

#13 is not a Vauxhall. This car was made in the UK but it's roots come from somewhere else
Roots eh? Or Rootes maybe? I vaguely recognise it but can't put my finger on it, but if not Vauxhall then it has to be a Rootes Group car, perhaps a Chrysler based one.

Ah hold on, got it now. Ford Consul Capri, the forerunner of the more famous Capri of the late 60s / 70s / early 80s.

That's it

Great show with a great selection. Sure wish I knew the value of some of those cars.

Here's a few more with no need to identify.

Damn Damn Damn... I knew it was a Ford, but thought it was a Galaxy... How stupid of me, as I just about remember it when it was a common (ish) site on british roads when we had 1 of these:
