gimme samples of your favorite Web 2.0 designs/sites

I want to get a fresh clean web 2.0 looking site designed - i need some samples so at least the designer has an idea of what I want. don't need to be adult sites, can be mainstream or adult.

post some links please

I have realized that every person has a different idea of what Web 2.0 is. Do you have a sample of what you feel is Web 2.0 in your eyes. Some clients think this is Web 2.0
Sample 01

while others think these are Web 2.0.
Sample 2
Sample 3

None of which really look super "web 2.0" in my eyes.

I'd lean more towards your first example if I had to choose. I just think the entire concept of "web 2.0" as a design style is stupid, but if I had to I'd say it's more minimal. Tabs, gradients, softer color contrasts.

If I had to pick out a site of the top of my head as having a really slick clean web 2.0 look. I think the first I'd go for would be DocStoc.

But again, I think "Web 2.0" is a stupid fucking term. It's all "Web 2.0" really, WTF is your other option? "Web 1.0"? "Web 3.0"? What are those? I really don't think "Web 2.0" is a term which is applicable to design itself. Though I'm sure the designers will gladly argue that.

web 2.0 is a graphic design style to many even if that's not what the original coiners of the term meant it to be, zuzana's samples have elements of that style but being porn sites they are a bit busy. rounded rectangles, soft gradients, large heading text, blank/negative space, tabs, buttons, jquery sliders - web 2.0 is also function/features which let the surfer interact with the site and its content. i'm just looking for nice samples of the design part for now for reference/inspiration.

most of these are definitely that style - modxcms is a pretty typical good example of 'web 2.0' style design and layout. SerialCut is gorgeous but I'm looking at a social network type site design and that one is really only applicable for a portfolio/showcase type site.

The site is still just a concept so it will be fixed before going live. I should have fixed that before I posted it. Thanks though for the heads up.

Web 2.0 Design Style is normally characterized by:

Simplicity
Central Layout
Solid areas of screen real-estate
Simple Navigations
Bold Logos
Bigger Text
Rich Surfaces
Gradients
Reflections
Rounded Corners

And they basically follow better design principals than older sites. With more available options, sites are starting to look more and more like print work (which they should). A stronger focus on good typography is also a staple "Web 2.0" thing...

It's also a move to more application like functionality... AJAX has made a lot of things possible and so as a byproduct it has also changed designs... The popularity of some major players during the rise of "Web 2.0" (Digg, Twitter, etc...) heavily influenced what is considered a "Web 2.0" style... A lot of these design principals considered "Web 2.0" as also based in the tech itself like CSS3... Allowing for rounded corners, gradients, etc... to be created without using images allows for faster page load times and more robust options for designing using (X)HTML/CSS only. I believe this is a major part of "Web 2.0" designs...

yeah i noticed that too. that design isn't in use when u go to Savanah Swings' paysite though.

when this design style came out i was still on a 17" monitor at 1024x768 resolution - a big % of surfers still are - the wide screen look and big design elements looked great to me. now i'm on a 25" monitor at 1920x1080 and websites look so small. I hate it, problem with an LCD monitor is that my display only really looks good at 1920x1080.

LOL you bring up another good point...

One of the main reasons font is getting larger on sites...

Because more and more people are moving to better monitors... I'm on a 2560 x 1600... It's not that they look small now it's that they looked WAY too large before... ;)

We are going live on the 10th The tour that's live now is using MAS to power it. We have a flash tour that will be tour #2 that will use MAS. When we get the jQuery on the top of this third tour done and the background fixed it will use Konrads CMS to power it. Going to focus on making it a social network for swingers.

agree with AJC & Fris and not really digging the term Web2.0 for design

here's my perspective on what the term means regarding design:
- clean minimalistic style design,
- larger fonts,
- larger space margins between elements,
- fresh and hi contrast color scheme - this one debatable
- some glossy (glass like) effects can apply on buttons and small containers.* this one cute but is not necessary.

Most people see glossy effect and think is web2.0

Mutt, you should give us a shot sometime again ;)

We are modifying his tube script to work as the cms with all the social networking features. It will work with CCbill as well. We are using it on this site as too.
Lebron James Tube
If and when I get the design all done of course. Never enough hours in the day it seems.

Spot on - typography and marginal rules is what makes web2.0 - very similar approach with publishing (print).
fancy stuff is just that.

For anyone confused on what Web 2.0 'is' watch this...

Mutt i do believe is just asking for the Look and feel of the new versions of webpages. Saywhut provided some damn nice modern looking sites.

A lot of people confuse web2.0 mechanics for glossy shiny looking reflective design.

the fact that you people think web 2.0 has a look shows how much you are tripping, and this is why adult is being demolished.

web 2.0 has no singular look its the exact opposite.

keyword FUNCTIONALITY. i dont want to go into details because i am not free

there is no key style that makes web 2.0 the point of web 2.0 is having your site its own style where it compares to no other. but that is maybe 5% of it.

ill think about how much i want to give away over a movie.

ya but web 2.0 is not about a "look" think of MAC OSX compared to WINDOWS, yes they are both OS's but what makes them different?

here is the key when designing your websites. think of them comparitively but realize how different they are and what makes one better then the other, or appear to be better when in all likelyhood they are the exact same.

ill drop you a msg when i get time i havent forgotten you sound like you are interested in a real convo holograph.

for me personally Web2.0 means interactivity - a possibility to make full blown applications right on a site.. say you make something like Photoshop to load in a browser - that is one single example of pure Web2.0, then instant interactivity with others also Web2.0

that's why i said I don't like term web2.0 for a design in my first post in this thread.

Of course load speeds font sizes etc etc have to do with the design but you should of been doing those things before "web 2.0" so in all reality they have nothing to do with it.

web 2.0 is about functionality bringing the website into a users life. they should be able to eat sleep shit and contact their friends all in one streamlined process. not literally but you get the idea.

web 2.0 is about functionality and accessibility.
