Akamai says 2 seconds page load time is the acceptable limit? That's pretty long.

Well, you are talking Akamai...
![]() Yes I agree that's too long. I try to use between .200 to .900 as a bench mark from our end but perhaps they are considering the limitations of some users systems. |

What I dont understand is Google is always saying how they are user orientated. I deal with a lot of users now via social networking sites.. and they LOVE bulky pages, more crap and sparkles you have on it the more its liked, many run 500k gifs, like 20 on a page. Load up a site like YouJizz and according to www.webpagetest.org its a very slow, heavily bloated site... I guess Google needs to give it a penality then, cos it fails nearly every test.... Bu the users love it and don't care.
I see the whole Google speed thing as an internal Google joke to keep the webwankers happy. |

![]() One could easily assume that as it does seem like they are obsessed however, a number of other companies have run test on speed and have come up with similar results. (see: http://radar.oreilly.com/steves/ ). I think in the end, we are very willing to wait for a page load especially, if it is something we are familiar with but for the common surfer passing through, I would see where they may have a very short attention span. Or perhaps they believe that the more time you have in front of an add banner or link (even if its just milliseconds) the higher the likelihood they have to click through. I do think that people want a page or video to load as fast as their TV Remote would change channels. |
