One fact that's missing from all the drama: Israel routinely lets in food and other vital materials to Gaza. They only want to inspect for weapons/rocket materials. Why is that unreasonable? I mean, aren't thousands of rockets launched from Gaza in the past enough reason?

I don't see why aide groups wouldnt use this route to bypass israel.

That is very naive given Israel's history. They take the supplies, and then act as an intermediary to give the supplies to the Palestinians. It is said the proportion of supplies received is not the full amount. If they wanted to do it right they could inspect the supplies in front of the UN, and/or a third party aid group, and then directly hand them to them from there. But they don't want to do this, they want to punish Palestinians as a whole, and it isn't legal or right.

that's incorrect, there's lots of things that are unjustifiably banned if it was the case that they were just looking for weapons. it's not just about weapons its a collective punishment. i posted this in another thread so i'll just copy and paste it:

the reason there isn't a full list is becuase the israelis won't give one out. the aid agencys have been pushing for one for a long time, but the israelis say no and all goods are on a case by case basis, that changes every week.

Iran has that right. If it's off the coast of their country, they legally have the right to stop the ship, board it, and inspect it.

I was going to say that the Iranian Navy only has fucking speed boats, but I looked it up and they have a handful of destroyers and a few subs.

But I don't think the US has any civilian ships in the area. It seems to me that most of the tankers aren't American, but instead flagged under odd countries that don't pay much attention to shipping laws. It's a legal work around.

please stop with the myth. you can't board a ship with weapons in international waters without permission , they did not, as far as inspecting , they would have no reason or law to base an inspection , after all what could they possibly find that isn;t on israeli ships already ?
