Anyone have Super High Speed Cable and disconnects

Anyone have Super High Speed Cable and disconnects frequently when downloading anything, even streaming video???

I cant deal with this any longer, is it line noise? I get speeds up to 60mbps but i can do 500kb and get dumped, then do 60mbps and be fine,

Just keep getting dumped and no clue why?!?!? could my router not like huge packets? its $180 DLINK Gaming Router with more bells and whistles than some of my early Cisco Babies in my old NoC

Do you split your cable at the wall to the TV and modem? For the longest time I had the same issue. It turned out it was a bad splitter. Everything worked just fine when I went straight from the wall to the modem and then later bought a better splitter.

However, after some time (about a year), the second splitter crapped out on me. I'm on my third now. It's annoying but at least I know what to check before I flip out at the cable co.

Router could be the problem.

Connect your computer directly to your cable modem to see if that solves the problem. If it does, then likely you'll need to tweak the router and/or get a different router; so-called "gaming" ones are a mixed bag from reviews I've read.

Most cable companies are still running on 30+ year old lines. I have been extremely happy with AT&T U-verse, all new fiber lines were run.

could be the problem. most apartments have a nest of cables and splitters from all the disconnects and reconnects of people coming and going.

I would definitely check this out first. I had the exact problem...

I'd get 20mb down one minute... then I'd get around 10kb and disconnects. It would be random... an hour of good bandwidth, a couple hours of problems, etc. It was extremely irritating. When I'd call the techs to come look, everything would be working fine. Then later on, it would be crap again.
