U.S. auto build quality beats out imports in J.D. Power survey for first time in 24 years

we're back, baby!

Ford was tops amongst volume brands with an average of 93 problems per 100 vehicles, coming in ahead of Honda which scored 95. Ford and GM together had 22 vehicles in the top rankings for quality.

U.S. manufacturers overall beat out the reliability rating of imports in the J.D. Power & Associates' latest quality study with an average of 108 problems per 100 new vehicles. For import brands, it was 109.

We've been back. But public perception says that American products are crap. And oh lord, they sure where in the 1970s and 1980s. But that was a long time ago.

Was this before or after GM cars started spontaneously catching fire and they recalled 1.5 million vehicles?

a lot of the cars in the 1990s and 2000s were crap too. Until recently they only had a few decent cars.

ill take the interior of my infiniti/nissan over the rubbermaid plastic of a ford any day of the week! If they made some cars with some more appeal instead of just throwing the biggest displacement motor in them that gets 10mpg id be more apt to purchase an american sports car.

recalls don't mean anything in and of themselves. fact is, the media loves to hype recalls & misses the bigger picture in the process.

You could argue that when a car is recalled, it shows some bad engineering by an automaker. However, the reality is most recalled vehicles will never experience a problem.

you certainly enjoy posting misleading comments, there have been zero gm cars that have spontaneously caught fire due to the issue.

I look at it differently, if my car gets recalled there is a huge problem with it, I have to bring it to the shop, get it fixed, maybe rent a car, lose time from work, thats a HUGE problem in my book.

You seem to not know what you are talking about

GM said it was aware of five fires but there had been no injuries or crashes reported. Nearly 1.4 million vehicles are in the U.S. and more than 100,000 vehicles are in Canada, Mexico and other international markets.

Ok fair enough. But where did I misspeak? I said they caught fire and they needed to recall 1.5 million vehicles.

I cant even get excited about this thread. I'd love to buy a car made in the US with parts made in the US that wasn't crap. Or have an economy that wasn't being exported away in little pieces. But whatever.

just my observation, from your comments in various threads. we prolly just don't see things the same, no biggie. fact is though, the media loves to hype recalls, yes, they are a pain in the ass.

anyhoo, to answer your original question, the j.d power results were after the recall.
