With all due respect to everyone that is proposing other hosts with virtual product offerings.. I would simply state that with the exception of Liquid Web which was plugged by cranky pants, nearly all of the remaining companies plugged in this thread aren't even 10% the size (revenue, employees, etc) and the next "largest" competitors with a virtual host product are at most 25% the size. Bigger isn't better and that's not my point - we can all agree on that. However, Mike's client count is 10 fold everyone else in this thread and when it comes to serving a volume of thousands of customers across a multitude of product lines... I'm just saying, statistics and probabilities - it's not possible to please everyone, especially in scale. Webair isn't going anywhere, that's for sure. There are a few decent other options in this thread. For some people, they're best off picking a host that is a small shop or one man show as a match for their needs with either dedicated or virtual hosting and there is no shame in that.

If I needed dedicated I would for sure go with your company...however there are plenty of big hosts in the sea that DO offer great support for ALL of their offerings and Web Air just seems like they do not.

Always excuses for shit ass customer service in this industry. I have a $10 a month virtual at HostGator and have been using them for years. Instant support for most problems, quick ticket responses for the rest. Oh, and if you get a dedicated and sell off 100 hosting accounts they'll answer their live support for your customers as well, all they ask is for your domain and password.

I don't know exactly what it is about those in this industry blowing off 'the mainstream' but HostGator takes adult. For $15 a month on a virtual you get a free SSL cert and dedicated IP as well.

Show me one 'adult' host that has the same support, uptime and all around good reputation on a cheap ass virtual account. I've used a dozen of them over the years and they all fucking sucked compared to HG. The funny part is that they pay out the ass for referrals so you'd think you'd see them spammed everywhere here but you don't.

This industry can be so weird.

Bad customer service is bad customer service. End of story. They don't have problems with probability, they have problems answering support tickets and its not random chance, its actually very consistent.

You are paying for the server and bandwidth, support is equal across all accounts at any decent host. Your $500 a month is FUCK ALL compared to someone elses $50,000 per month. So you want the same support at a 100th of the price?

Well, when I need anything or have a prob I hit up live support and someone takes care of me immediately. I only had probs once with some really bad tech on live support and once with their billing department - so I hit up Gerard and probs were fixed plus I got some bonus.

Can't argue about Webair's support, but then again I've got a dedicated server.

Actually,i found it weird how dedicated server customers are more important for certain companies,when i was talking with ditlev,ceo of uk2group(100tb and other crap),he said how he more preffer shared customers beacuse then he make more money.But yes managing shared customer is much heavier then dedicated.

That depends on how you decide to manage your resources.

I find that most companies who prefer the virtual/shared environment for running their web hosting business simply do not factor in true costs of support in regards to handling those clients. It will typically take additional support staff to handled 400 shared/virtual clients then it would for 400 dedicated servers. At least if you want to provide the same level of support in regards to response and resolution times.

Furthermore, it comes down to your business model. With a shared environment, depending on the box, you could make $600-1200+ on that single box in profit. Versus $100-300.00 (depending on the company) for a single dedicated, one client, server.

The point being, you need less staff for one over the other, which will cost more, and eat away your "profits" of virtual clients. There are a lot of other factors that go into either one of these business models, as nothing is completely clear cut as a few paragraphs on a message board.

If you are really worried about getting immediate and personal support, put a contract technical person on retainer.
Often i am the liaison between a client and webair since i am in charge of the technical stuff.
