Both methods work fine if the person performs the task correctly.

However, standing does have the benefit of making it impossible that during the wiping
action you actually reach down too far and put your hand in the shit you just shat.

I wipe sitting down. I just lean over and rest the back of my wrist on the butt-sweat moistened toilette seat for leverage as I wipe because who cares about the back of their wrist...? I also look at the tissue after wiping, and continue to waste massive amounts of toilette paper for each wipe until the tissue stays white... then if I'm in a public bathroom I leave everything in the toilette with the seat up for someone else to flush because I don't touch public flush handles.

I flush at least 3 times during whole process.

Plus, we use shattaf bidet to actually wash the shit out, then use toilet tissue to wipe and dry.
