Ok, even a Mac OS X users have to learn their system (at least the basic things), so here is the answer to my question.

~/Library/Preferences - MAC OS X analog of Windows registry HKCU
/Library/Preferences - MAC OS X analog of Windows registry HKLM

Every key is located in it's own file. These files can be easily altered by means the OS commands (e.g. plutil can convert them into XML files and back to binaries). You can also use a special software (e.g. resource knife) to do it without converting.

Also type "defaults" in the Darwin's terminal.
Yeah, that's useless to me. I know how to ditch old prefs, that's about all I can think of that applies to what you just said.

So now tell me, can you take a bunch of random musical instruments like, Cello, Violin, Flute, Drums, Bass, and maybe a little Guitar and a handful of vocals & sound effects, and compose an original kick ass soundtrack from scratch in two days that's worthy of money? Because I can.

Took control of her system and walked her though it for about an hour... She's called me twice since, (in a year) with questions which I just hopped back on Ichat and took care of in minutes.

Oh the sweet bliss
The people I've managed to switch, have never called me once for help. A nice reprieve from the constant calls I used to get when they were on Windows.

I'm not a musician so I can't compose ever a simple 3-note melody. But my son can. He is playing guitar in a heavy metal band and of course he composes the music (almost all music their band plays) and lots of instrumental computer music. Actually he composes the music for their band mostly on computer. I'm a total layman in his software but the only thing I know for sure, he uses Windows XP 32bit. Also I know what sound card he is using (it was a present from me and my wife). It's Infrasonic Quartet Pro.

Macs:
Not expensive.
Run fast, quiet, cool
Look Great
Quality hardware, compatible, talks to entire system.
Never crash
Uses ever-longer .ini and other config files. Machine gets slower every time you install a new program.
Sexy & Solid.

PC's:
Expensive considering the extras you need, the time configuring, the time wasted. No resale value.
Run slow, Noisy, hot.
Look like shit. Old design, millions of cables
Multiple hardware makers of multiple products all trying to communicate via shitty drivers
Crash daily
No .ini files! No slow down with new programs. Fast yesterday, fast today.
Fat, bloated

I love my Macs. We're replacing all of our PC's with Macs in the next 4 months. Will never buy a pc again.

I've gone around and around about this for years, and even on other threads here. I'm an MCSE. I was the Network Admin for a fortune 500 company, one of the largest park systems in the US and have designed and supported WANs for everything from Banks to Police stations.

Windows is a piece of fluffy crap. There is only one thing to really say about the people claiming that os x is for people that don't know computers... OS X is a Unix certified OS. Unix... Now I know many of you windows people might not know what that even is.

Try building up a PC to hardcore anything. Adding high end video cards, sound cards, dedicated encoding cards etc, is all a pain in the ass. IF you can ever get the machine to run correctly, god forbid you make one hardware change. When you not fucking around trying to get all the hardware working then your fucking around cleaning your computer from all the crap out there trying to destroy it.

I finally had enough about 5 years ago and went out and picked up my first MB Pro. I have not looked back. All my macs are rock solid, in fact right now, on that 5 year old mac pro, I'm batch encoding H.264 video from DV raws, running 2 monitors, have 15 browser windows open both safari and firefox. am running adobe cs 4 doing some picture editing. Adimum and skype, a half dozen other programs and it rock solid. The machine stays one and has for the last 5 years, chunking away.. I've had a system cooling fan fail recently, but it's a 25 buck fix. Other than that... peaches. For ROI nothing, and I mean NOTHING has even come close to what the macs have provided. Not only in reliability of the hardware but for the countless hours I have saved not fighting with the damn computer everyday.

You Windows fanboys are really kidding yourselves and look retard to those of us that have a clue. Go back to beating up newbies on your Xboxs....
I build my own Windows 7 rigs -- they're super fast, they render thousands of frames of animation on a weekly basis(sometimes around the clock) and while I can't say it's a 100% flawless operation, I can't complain about too much.

All of my builds boot up the first time and run great on the same day. You're talking about years ago problems, not today's problems.

This really is a bunch of misinformation(or just outright lies). About the only true thing you wrote about Macs is that they look better, but that's a matter of opinion.

all OS have there ups and downs, I always use windows and linux on all my desktop and laptop computers but like most I only linux on servers. I had a mac once but couldnt stand it. at the end of the day if everyone used linux the world would be a better place. there are some amazing apps and all free. windows/mac are so slow compared to linux but windows/mac are a bit more shiny, if you like shiny then its fine.

I see people here claim to be experts yet they can't even custom build a PC that is stable?

Been a mac user since 1990. Always liked the interface and the stable OS. My spouse has been thru 3 PC laptops in 5 years. It's always either the video card goes bust, or the motherboard blew up.
This is just my honest opinion.
To each his own.

No, I can instead focus on what matters, which is using the tools to make me money and not worrying about what the fucks going to lockup or crash next.

Like I said... If your content with your system then kudos to you. You have to be in the 1% of windows users that seem to have found some magical unicorn that granted you freedom from the BSD. But, don't coming in here trying to make it out to be the norm.
No offense but didnt you write 3 paragraphs about how you WERE a super geek?

Amp is all over this thread claiming he was a machine building guru, but can't figure out that more than likely he had his memory timings all fucked up? That he more than likely had something wrong LONG before he even installed windows on the box.

This thread is silly. And to say windows people are worse than mac fanbois is hysterical lol

I know what I need to know. I'm not a computer expert, I'm a design expert.
Networking in win7 is pretty much instant. Takes a username and pw to get on the computer. Even with no control of the actual network ( like at a hotel, public wifi etc) two win 7 computers that have sharing enabled on whatever they want to share is instant.

Saying its impossible is ridiculous. You sure you didn't switch to mac when it was win 98 or win 95? lol
