It's kinda funny - I think we're having one of the coolest summers we've had in a while. I've turned on my AC all of 2 times this summer. Yes I realize it's "global" warming but still...it's clearly not getting warmer everywhere all the time.
It's thinking like that which caused them to change the name to the more accurate "climate change".

Mans contribution to that is estimated to be around 3.5% of that...

Total CO2 put out by humans every year:

27 gigatonnes.

Total CO2 put out by all other sources every year:

220 gigatonnes -- Consumption of vegetation by animals & microbes

220 gigatonnes -- Respiration by vegetation

332 gigatonnes -- The oceans

772 gigatonnes -- TOTAL from all other sources.

27/772 = 3.5%

What happens if we GAS IT UP? How about 1000x current?

In human subjects exposed to low concentrations (less than 4 percent) of carbon dioxide for up to 30 minutes, dilation of cerebral blood vessels, increased pulmonary ventilation, and increased oxygen delivery to the tissues were observed (Gibbs et al. 1943, Patterson et al. 1955). These data suggest that carbon dioxide exposure can aid in counteracting effects (i.e., impaired brain function) of exposure to an oxygen-deficient atmosphere

Whats happening to most of the CO2?

Oceans Absorbed Missing CO2

"The ocean has removed 48 percent of the CO2 we have released to the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels and cement manufacturing," Sabine said after reviewing data gathered between 1989 and 1998 from three major studies of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. The studies collected more than 72,000 ocean samples.

Why does CO2 rise?

CO2 rises always follow the warming up of the earth

Why is it rising?

Because the Earth is starved for it. Nature is correcting itself.. Man's contribution is only helping..

Co2 is the magic gas that makes plants grow
http://joannenova.com.au/2010/04/co2...es-plant-grow/

Now if you were someone who wanted less life (humans) on Earth you would sell them on this myth that they are killing themselves by producing what naturally exudes from them in an attemt to cut back on carbon emissions in turn kill off the food which feeds them. Along with other means such as vaccines/eugenics, geneticly modifying their food, etc

Well you won me over, boy do I feel dumb.

In the morning I'm going to swap my natural gas water heater for a coal fired one and go buy an Excursion.

Dude - do you know you are stupid? Are you often frustrated by things others find easy and chalk it up to the fact that you aren't very bright? Or are you so colossally imperceptive that you actually think you are smart because you can Google things?

You did notice in your magical retard math analogy that at the top you have listed 'ocean output' and at the bottom 'ocean absorption' right?

Just listen to me:

You are dumb. It's okay man, a lot of people are dumb. In fact, I'm guessing about 50% of the US population is of below average intelligence.

Just relax, leave the science to the egg heads. Find yourself a nice job mixing simple coffee drinks in a green uniform, pay some taxes, get sterilized and you will be doing your part for the nation.

Oceans release carbon dioxide.. As well as abosrb... Just as plants do and everything else.. The oceans have absorbed 50% of mans output..

That really makes sense to you?

From your example:

Human output: 27 billion tons.
Ocean output: 332 billion tons.

So the oceans 'absorbed' a mere 13 billion tons. And spit back out 332 billion tons?

THAT'S NOT ABSORBING YOU BOOB.

I'm done with this thread. I'm arguing with a fucking short bus masturbator. I think my posts in here have cost me braincells.

PROBABILITY 101: hypothetically assume that a child in a particular third world country has a 70% chance of dying before adulthood and a 30% chance of survival until adulthood. People in the 3rd world ensure that their family survives for another generation by having more kids, e.g. if one family has 3 kids probabiltity they all dont reach adulthood is around 34% (0.7^3). Hence, better vaccines= better survival odds= less population, since fewer kids are needed to ensure a new generation.

Look just face it ... we have been conditioned to believe we are warming the planet so that we can be taxed trillions of dollars a year.

This is all about money .. nothing else.

You are not being taxed on fossil fuels?

Taxes aren't everything.

Technology is one of the few sectors first world countries still have an advantage over emerging countries like China or Brazil. Why wouldn't they push for greener products when, by owning the technology, it ensures first world countries still lead the way?

That has nothing to do with my comment.

Just because we are taxed on something, doesn't make huge new taxes in a similar area a good idea... especially when it is going to influence the price of everything. This is a money grab and nothing else. Don't fool yourself. .. a few people/organisations are going to get VERY VERY rich once this tax is rammed through.

It has everything to do with it.

You even answered yourself.

It will make those who own the technology rich. US organizations. China can't compete in clean tech.

So why wouldn't they want to ram it through?

"They may be deep and wide, but the world’s oceans are bearing a heavy load: they absorb one third of the carbon produced by human industry. As a result they’re turning into acidic bathtubs. As water warms, it expands, hence the rising sea levels."

"The Gulf and the rest of the world's waters also face the uncertain and potentially devastating effects of climate change. Warming ocean temperatures reduce the water's oxygen content, and rising atmospheric carbon dioxide is altering the basic chemistry of the ocean, making it more acidic. There is no shortage of evidence that both of these effects have begun to wreak havoc on certain important creatures."
http://www.ouramazingplanet.com/eart...tinction-0385/

"Human use of fossil fuels is altering the chemistry of the atmosphere; oceans are polluted and depleted of fish; 80% of Earth's forests are heavily impacted or gone yet their destruction continues. An estimated 50,000 species are driven to extinction each year. We dump millions of tonnes of chemicals, most untested for their biological effects, and many highly toxic, into air, water and soil.
We have created an ecological holocaust. Our very health and survival are at stake, yet we act as if we have plenty of time to respond."

http://www.davidsuzuki.org/blogs/pan...lihood-awards/

"The simultaneous decrease in ocean oxygen not only threatens the survival of aerobic marine organisms, but is symptomatic of the slow-down in the ocean’s thermohaline ‘conveyor belt’ circulation system that transports heat from the tropics to the poles, overturns surface layers of into the deep and vice versa, redistributing nutrients and gases for the ocean biosphere, and regulating rainfall and temperatures on the landmasses. Changes to the thermohaline could wipe out the ocean’s phytoplankton that’s ultimately responsible for splitting water to regenerate oxygen for the entire biosphere, on land and in the sea."

"One of the most dramatic results of the relentless rise in marine pollution is the increase in both the number and size of ocean dead zones. Dead Zones, by Reyes Tirado and published by Greenpeace in 2008 defines ocean dead zones as areas of the ocean which have been depleted of oxygen."

The negative impact of humans on this planet is unquestionable and undeniable. Arguing about it is about as productive as refusing to do your part to at least stem the tide. Does anyone here have a problem with going green?
As in recycling,
using energy efficient light bulbs,
making sure your next car is at least more fuel efficient than the last,
adding insulation to your home,
adding displacers to the backs of your toilets to use less water,
turning off lights and electronics when you leave a room, etc etc?

Whether you believe in global warming or not is it really going to kill any of you to make a few positive changes in your lives in order to help the environment?

Christ, people. Every few months the same stupid thread pops up. Look around you, it's obvious there's a problem. Try doing something to help fix it.

Higher concentrations of Co2 are better in oxygen deficient enviornments. Which is why it is/was used as a fire surpressant.

These data suggest that carbon dioxide exposure can aid in counteracting effects (i.e., impaired brain function) of exposure to an oxygen-deficient atmosphere "

Christ, people. Every few months the same stupid thread pops up. Look around you, it's obvious there's a problem. Try doing something to help fix it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but how is paying additional taxes on everything and dictating every facet of everyone's life going to do anyone any good? That is outside of allowing a bunch of $8 an hour tree huggers to run around doing the dictating and some fat cats to get richer.

My city just paid nearly $1 million dollars in tax payer money to put solor panels on a building here.. End result said solar panels will power 5 houses.. GO GREEEN!$$$

they must be using some shitty solar panels. My parents have 7 that run everything in the house except for the fridge and stove. TV, computer, stereo, lights. Seriously, everything. Its pretty nice to not have an electric bill every month.

When someone says "solar takes too long to pay off", just ask them to tell you how many years they had to pay their electric company before the company called them up and told them to stop paying for their power. How long does that take anyway? 3 or 4 generations? Oh.. never? that sucks..

But the monthly charge keeps getting less and less, right? Oh.. it doesnt? It actually gets more and more? Fuck.

oh well, I guess I'll jam my fingers in my ears and say LA LA LA LA because EVERYONE knows that solar doesnt work.

Literally everything you say is wrong and/or (usually and) ignorant.

The reason CO2 is used as a fire suppressant is because it its an inert gas that displaces oxygen and interrupts the chemical reaction of burning. It has no bearing whatsoever on global warming, global climate change or global pollution.

CO2 as a molecule is just delightful. Too much of it and other green house gasses in the atmosphere are bad.

Too much of any good thing, applied incorrectly, is bad.

Champagne is great stuff. If I hold your head in a bucket of it for 5 minutes (god I would love to) that would make it a killer. If we filled the ocean with it, marine life would die and beach goers would be perpetually drunk.

The issue isn't CO2 itself or the CO2 that circulates naturally through plant life or oceans. The issue is changing the chemistry of the earth's atmosphere by burning fossil fuels and massive animal farming. A few million cars convert hydrocarbons to free CO2 and a few million cows convert grain plants into free methane.

Oh I forgot this topic is relevant again cause its summer. Are you "global warming" supporters the same ones that bought into the swine flu bullshit as well? lol

Id be glad to do a quick recount on how many times "environmental disasters" have turned out to be utter bullshit in say the last 30 years. Even though "all scientists" concurred that the world would be in great peril if something wasnt done. lmao.

When presented with opposing information and facts, you bring up Bible thumpers, call people stupid etc. Man made global warming =s utter fraud period. NO ONE is saying we shouldn't try to conserve and do our best to prevent pollution. And those that bring up "what is wrong with being green" over and over again JUST DON'T get it.

The temperatures in Moscow reaching 100F is apparently caused by the US, HAARP program.

The Pentagon was not immediately reachable for comment.

If Anthropogenic Global Warming existed and the evidence was incontrovertible that it would cause devastation, as many say, then governments around the world would not be proposing this and that legislation, slowly passing laws and trying to work out treaties. Obama would be signing Executive Orders and the leaders of every major nation in the world would be doing the same thing.

I'm so tired of this.

People, stop believing what clowns say. Pickup a copy of PopSci or Discover once in a while and READ.

Humans are not the only Green house gas creators. Cars, Factories and Coal burning plants produce millions of tons of this every day, as do most animals such as Pigs and Cows (Methane).

CLIMATE IS NOT WEATHER. Snow in Texas or sub zero temperatures in New York is not a sign that the earth is getting cooler. Stop talking about the two as if they are the same thing. THEY ARE NOT.

The AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF THE ENTIRE EARTH is rising. The average temperature in the Arctic ranges from +14 to +50 degrees F in the summer, and -40 to +32 degrees F in the winter. Water freezes at 32 Degrees F. Normally, over the course of a year, and every year, the ice caps grow and shrink by a little bit during the year.

Lately, with the CLIMATE GETTING WARMER, the Arctic and Antarctic circles are staying a little warmer, a little longer, causing more glaciers to melt, faster. The worlds oceans too are warming up.

More Melting means higher water levels, means more floods, damage, lost crops, more disease. Warmer oceans means the death of coral and other marine life necessary for the food chain. Warmer oceans could also mean a drastic change in weather patterns.

People who are Global Warming deniers are insane. Yes of course greenhouse gases occur naturally too by sources such as Volcanos, but so what? Since we are one of the causes of Greenhouse gases, we should take responsibility to keep them down. Today's scientists are smart enough to know that there is a problem and are sounding the alarms. People need to stop being AFRAID of what they have to say and find bullshit reasons to dismiss them, and start taking real action to save our planet.

well the deniers have adapted to not disagreeing with global warming, but put doubt on whether its man-made or not

and any scientist in the world will agree that we need more information on whether humanity is responsible for the planet getting warmer.

You're basing your claim on temperatures which have been manipulated as shown in the original post as well with the climategate scandal. Also they have been measuring the ice in East Antartic which is prone to decrease and not the West which is (and is even more) increasing.

In addition the Northern Hemishpere is getting warmer and the Southern Hemishpere is getting cooler.. WHich has to do with the Earths rotation and alignment with the moon, sun, etc.. Not Co2.

She NEVER recouped the cost. The tech doesn't last for generations.. You have to replace it.. In fact I believe it was around 10 years later the panels were disconnected and a regular water heater was installed. Maybe saving her a total of $3-4k in electricity over that time.

I apologize for calling you a loony earlier--you're obviously an accomplished climate scientist.

Perhaps you could now show off your economist chops and tell us how the economy can be stimulated and the deficit reduced by cutting taxes. Thanks.

I know you're being sarcastic but heree ya go..

In 1913 what is know as the Federal Reserve Act was passed. The people of the US wanted their money out of the hands of the Wallstreet bankers. So what the bankers did was create this entity and gave it a "Federal" name to make the public believe it was federal. The reality is it is and was a private entity. Up until WWI the US only owed around 1 million in gold of debt. We were led iinto said war to amass debt. In a matter a few years the debt increased to 25 million in gold.

The bankers wanted their paper printing securitized so in 1921 the treasury was handed over in much the same way as the banking system. They unleashed the printing presses making a boomtime in the 20's much like they did in the 2000s. Eventually pulling the plug in 1929 much like they did in '08. By 1933 the US as you know it was declared bankrupt. Roosevelt seized all the peoples gold to repay said debt. In order to protect himself and the others in Washington from a revolt he also declared the American people enemies of the STATE. Since said time the US has been ruled under a secret military dictatorship under a maritime/admiralty jurisdiction.

Fix all that and your problems are solved. Beginning with abolishing the Federal Reserve. Congress doesn;t have to borrow money and pay interest on said money..

Oh much like how my city spent all that money to power 5 houses and they sell it back to the energy supplier who then sells it to someone else?

I see how that works.. Knew it before you even started..

as I said, EVERYTHING in the house is run by solar, except for the fridge and stove.

You said "My city just paid nearly $1 million dollars in tax payer money to put solor panels on a building here.. End result said solar panels will power 5 houses.."

to which I said that must be some crappy solar panels. According to that, to power one house would cost 200,000...for my parents they have put in about 5000 in the 15 years they have lived in this house and never paid an electric bill.

The planet has warmed and cooled long before humans where even on it. It's a natural cycle.

So having clean air and water is a bad thing and getting off oil is bad? Did you think maybe its not Al gore making money on this but the oil companies pushing bad info to decredit it all because they have alot to lose. China is using solar already for public transportation, I dont think Al is an important voice there.
