Why isn't ThePirateBay/etc banned from Google?

??

Why aren't obvious pirating websites such as thepiratebay/etc or their links, blocked from google?

If you submit a link to your pirated content listed on google, don't they remove it? Why not piratebay material?

My answer: less people would use google if you couldn't get free pr0n/moviez/appz/etc right from first page google listings.

Google would not be a multi-billion dollar company if not for other people's interesting shit. Their entire company is built on a service that serves up other people's sites/content.

Less people would use google if google would start censoring sites. It's a search engine (and the best out there) and all it has to do is bring search results.
It's not their duty to control the content of websites they have on their index. What about pedophile sites? There are plenty you can reach through Google. And again... a site that is totally against the law in some places, could be totally fair in other places: google is worldwide, can't apply rules based on...what? General common sense? And whom decides what's "general common sense"?

I could go on and on...but the point is: Google is (should be) just a search engine.

pornhub.com Alexa = 55
tube8.com = 95
redtube.com = 115
thepiratebay.org = 93
isohunt.com = 233
youporn.com = 66
xhamster.com = 68
megaupload.com= 75
xvideos.com = 53

Seems obvious... Especially when you look at the breakdown of where the traffic comes from. Yahoo is right on Google's heals in this arena so they don't want to give it up and LOSE!

Still.... as an active member of the adult industry I'm sure ( ) you must find it shocking to search for --<< any given pornsite >>-- and finding first page search results nearly every time of full length pirated content.

Which makes me wonder why website owners don't spend more time submitting dmca notices to google itself (and they do remove links)

I can see their argument for leaving the links alone.

But what seems totally illegal is how they SUGGEST pirate links as you type.

If you type in "Dreamweaver CS5", Google actually suggests you search for Dreamweaver Torrent which is basically telling everyone searching for Dreamweaver to check out the pirate version.

That to me seems illegal on some level. Telling a surfer about a pirate version when they didn't even search for it makes no sense to me and I don't see why media companies haven't asked them to stop doing that.

That doesn't mean Google should block those sites. Actually if you type just the name of the site, first result usually is the site itself (because Google usually works), it's when you add something else ("p2p", "warez" and so on) that you find those sites.... because google works (usually).

I agree though, website owners should spend more time fighting those sites, but not only asking google to remove the site, also asking hosting companies to shut them down (and they do)

Information isnt illegal and neither are "pirate links". Look up the DMCA and ask your lawyer.

I know your site will usually come up first, if not always, I'm just saying typically in first page results <<<<<<<<< FULL RIPP3D TORRENT SITERIP >>>>>>>>>>>> also appears

Same reason above. As someone else pointed out, giving information is not illegal, at least not till now and i DO hope will remain like that.

Those suggestions come because those are the most common search terms people use.

Google suggestion is based on how many times that search query has come up with related words. So if you got Dreamweaver CS5 Torrent showing up, it's because a lot of people are searching for that, so they suggested it to you. It's not like some guy was seeing you type your search and think "lol, this broke guy won't pay, lets just give him a torrent".

No one thinks that you fucking clown... just like we know the reason torrents/etc appear in 1st page results is due to the site's pagerank... not because google is like LOLZ LETS PUT TEH PIRATE BAY LINK RIGHT UNDERNEATH THE MAIN SITE

It still doesn't stop it from being very questionable as to why both take place

Even though your example is an obvious one. It's a slippery slope and I don't think anyone would want Google to start deciding which sites should and should not be allowed to be in the index.

Well at least you can send dmca to google for certain keyword,so for example if you type yourproductname and you see pirated result among top10 and further,they will remove it almost automatically when you complain to them about it.

Good to know - I see that "ChillingEffects.org" link sometimes... just surprised I don't see it more often

As already stated I'm sure google accounts for a lot of the pirating that's taking place... it won't stop piracy of your content completely but it can sure help
