programs buying thier own traffic sounds like a great idea but just too many sites out there today...just too vast. Maybe ten years ago this would be more effective.

Affiliate model may not be dead but this formula is:

1. Produce shit content
2. Don't know anything about marketing or learn anything about marketing
3. Offer affiliates 50-60% or PPS
4. ??
5. Profit

Economic crisis, pirating, competition, saturation, - however you want to look at it, doesn't make sense to rely 100% on affiliates without your own marketing team

No. I think the "make a glossy paysite, never update it, cross-sell and upsell the fuck out your members" model is dead.

There is always going to be smaller, niche-oriented websites that update regularly, give their customers value for their money, and are looking for people to promote them.

The affiliate model is not going anywhere soon. It may be changing, but is still the backbone of generating a vast amount of different types of traffic, which is needed for any program to exist and prosper. Oversaturated programs are having conversion problems, but programs that are not yet oversaturated are doing fine especially with good affiliates that produce traffic from multitudes of diverse methods. Porn nor the affiliate model are still strong. They may have changed, and continue to change, but they certainly are not dead.

dead = buy a TGP software lincense and a $5/mo account at dreamhost. load up your TGP with some FHG from ND, RK and other over saturated sponsors. Add a free trade script, sign up for trades with other TGPs. Turn your skim up to 80% and buy $100 worth of "hardcore/general" traffic and flood your TGP with it.

not dead = creative strategy opposite of what I posted above

If something was never alive in the first place, then it can not die. The "affiliate biz" is a system and when systems cease to function, they can be altered and fixed to work again.

If you're not making money .....

1 - Stop posting on the boards.

2 - Do something; make a free site, a blog, new link trades, submit a gallery, develop domains you have sitting, etc. Every single day make something new.

3 - Stop posting on the boards.

All the partners who get payouts 2x a month from us know for a fact the affiliate business model isn't dead.

Affiliate programs can start a traffic source, yes.
But an affiliate can rent feeds/buy content, get billing and start an (affiliate) program.
Both happen all the time.

As long as I've got niched traffic for sale on my sites, there will be a line up of programs/paysites that want me to send it to them.

No amount of inhouse traffic is enough to cancel out affiliates. For every company getting their own traffic and not wanting affiliates there is 3 out there dying for my clicks.

Also to add, I've sold about 40 ad spots to PROGRAMS looking for affiliates in the last 8 weeks, I think in this economy, and the problems many affiliate programs are having, to sell that many ads consistently, tells me its not so bad and that programs are still looking for affiliates

i think this is the point exactly. There are far too many affiliate programs out there. Affiliates stick with what works for them. Getting a good affiliate to change links is VERY hard, even if you offer a superior product.

I think the affiliate program model as we know it is dead/dying. The model is changing. Programs will work to be less dependent on affiliate traffic and more dependent on media buy and core "partners". I believe Shap said this in another thread. Why focus on hundreds of affiliates who send only a few sales a month when you can focus on a few core affiliate partners that have enough traffic to justify the custom ad tools, etc required by affiliates today?

If you think about it, there will likely always be some sort of affiliate program. It breaks down to a site owner driving all his/her own traffic that they can, but then offering a cut on traffic someone else can send. That's it. It makes business sense.

The days of 150% payouts and $30PPS on a site that charges $30 a month and has an avg rebill of two months? I don't think that was very sustainable to begin with..

Fact is that you don't have a secret magic strategy at all.. there is nothign to hide, nothign new... we all know what others are doing..

and you are doing the same shit that everyone else.. hehe. funny you want to pretend to be an innovative guy of the 21 century...

Statements like these piss me off. My biz certainly isn't dead, it's thriving. I'm sorry that other companies couldn't hack it

As long as affiliate's have "quality" traffic there will be programs lining up to buy it.
