The Rep Thing

i thought it was a pretty lame idea when they first started it (and in some ways, still do), but it seems to have changed the landscape of GFY a bit. kind of cool. not nearly as much trolling. i doubt that will last. sort of an interesting social experiment.

Still, if it helps, it helps...

I think what they really need on here in addition to the rep is an "iTrader" feature similar to what DP and the other mainstream webmaster forums have. There are people on here everyday that have services I might be interested in purchasing, but when they have no track record I can't bring myself to pull the trigger. The iTrader can be manipulated just like the rep, but people that have hundreds of positive iTrader transactions would be way more likely to get my business...

I still don't understand the reasoning behind the allocation of the power to rep people. I'm kinda proud of the fact that I'll never make 10,000 posts because I'm not a bot or a sig whore and I only speak up when I have something to say, but I think my opinion on this board carries as much weight as many of the "colored names" who got that way through shitposting. So why are they the ones doling out the reputations? I don't understand the point, really. It sorta seems like it would make more sense if the old-timers who aren't high-volume posters ought to be part of the system, if the system is to be anything but worthless.

Its kind of funny, but i notice a lot less trolling and fighting over stupid shit.

Im guessing the true trolls will be painted in red over time. Don't know for sure, just my guess.

We will see. Time will tell.

At first, I was frustrated at the 10k post thing to be able to give rep. Then I was totally disappointed to find out how it was being abused (it was to be expected really).

However, because of all that, it makes me notice" regular nicks more that I've never read before. The "real" people that have interesting things to say... a breath of fresh air

It's a weird setup here. On other forums where you actually have feedback on sales reputation is another factor to consider making it more important. I've also seen implementations where to leave someone a negative red you would also lose some rep points, this cut out all the trade for rep posts.

I don't care either way, just think it's funny to see a negative rep pop up when I piss someone off.

I would like to see it changed so people who have been a member for 6 or 7 years get the power to rep. I don't think post count should really count for anything

I agree with Adam on the post count thing... I think it also needs to develop the same set of "rules" things like Karma over at Reddit adopted and it could be good (ie not neg. repping someone just because you disagree).

Once affiliate reps start getting negative reps for too much spam it should be fun to watch.

It's meant to be another tool in deciding if someone is credible or not, not a be all end all if you can trust them, so it's far from useless. It's not that hard to look through someone's iTrader and see the people that left them positives and their comments and reputations. If a bunch of anonymous posters with 1 or no iTrader are leaving him the positives then that is a red flag. It sucks that you got scammed, but people get scammed every day by otherwise reputable people that are just starting to fall apart, and you never know if you are dealing with someone with a solid rep that is just starting his downward slide...

So why are they the ones doling out the reputations? I don't understand the point, really. It sorta seems like it would make more sense if the old-timers who aren't high-volume posters ought to be part of the system, if the system is to be anything but worthless.
It would be a partial bro circle jerk any which way it was implemented, but yeah giving sigwhores, surfers and bots the power to rep is probably why I see many people I wouldn't take advice on what time of day it is with high reps. Just a bit of fun I guess to help create a few more posts and board dynamics. I don't for a second think it will change anything though.. Since when do trolls not want negative attention?

I'll take the business and traffic I have built up by working off the boards most of the last 10 years.

I know 9 green icons doesn buy me shit. My traffic and experience from working off the boards does.

Most of the players in this biz have way less than 10,000 posts.

So is this board about biz or about post count? Seem its is mostly about post count since this silly rep thing.

But whatever, everyone has 9 greens. Now what?

They should give you guys who post here so many $$$ per 10,000 posts not green icons. Fact is you high posters do make GFY.

I've looked at (life and) the board from "both sides" (FFvB) and without all the "characters" and lets just say it isnt as good. (Joni Mitchell ref had to throw in)

Frankly I think they are just giving you something. It isnt worth a damn and it and 5000 hits MAY get you a sup.

In a way I am most dissapointed in GFY for creating a "click" that now "monitors" and gives rep based on some willy nilly reasoning and thinks it means anything.

Wait, OK now it makes perfect sense. This is GFY lol Does anything make sense?

I guess I am supposed to "seek the click" and gain rep so I am not outcast as only a wm who earns a living as a porn afil (dieing breed) and not someone with mundo green after my name.
It's ok green is cool. My fav color.

But WOULD you want the old cat after 13 years in the trenches to start sugar coating it because someone will get oiffended and red me.

sigh it is all so stupid.

And fuck you agent488 I'll all I fucking want a-hole.

If I posted 80,000 times it would be important to me too.

And fuck the other dipshit who red'd me.

I like red. Red me up assholes.

You know if you green me I'll love you for life though. But you got to mean it.

Noone gave me one green after all my good music threads. Damn. I am so out of time, out of touch
