Too many pictures, too many harddrives, software help to solve this neverending issue?!?!

So like most people I download from my cameras pictures and videos that I take and now I have many many years worth of it all. The problem is that it is spread out over multiple PCs, backup drives, external drives and so on and I want to clean house!

Anyone have any good suggestions on how I can sort all of this the BEST WAY POSSIBLE and I was thinking that folders created PER MONTH for the YEAR it happened would be the best.

It needs to be for PC (not mac) and compatible to Windows 7 and it does not need to be free as I prefer paying for my software's.

Thanks!

ACDSee Photo Manager will do the trick. They also have a pro version but I don't think you need it.

for starters I would just use 1 mobile HD for the pics, and a 2 TB for the videos that way you don't have everything everywhere..
yeah, use ACDSee or http://www.digitaldutch.com/arles/
I've been using it for 5+ years and I always know where everything is..
Look at the default template:
http://ryulion.com/phoenixforum09/
it generates videos also.

Thanks guys. Trying the ACDsee now and it looks promising.

Now after I have figured out and sorted it all - how about something good to remove duplicates that I seem to have a bunch of? I tried some rinky dinky old software for that before but didnt like it.

I burn my shoots to BD disk, put them in a 9x11 folder with paper work and file in a file cab. they are also backed up on externnal drives that I yank and store when full. I'm sure you can do smething like this... might take a week or so to catch up, then just stay on top of it... pretty simple

These are personal photos I shoot as I dont "shoot", never have and never will, but still the same - its a personal photo mess I have on multiple hdds all around the place. Thinking of merely moving ALL photo files over to a single massive HDD, then sort them with some software by date, delete duplicates (with a software again), and then back them regularly up as they come into ONE place from then on.

Wish I had as much patience with these things as some of my employees and clients!

i burn all content to dvd's, make 3 copies (having a dvd copier makes this easy), 1 copy for the office, 1 copy for the safe and 1 copy for offsite. also keep content on a passport drive too

I hear Carma handles these types of situations...

Sorry... It was too hard not to throw it out there.

Thumbs Plus Pro from Cerious will easily handle that. You can organze all of your media files over your network, and sort, search, rename, compare, move 'em all around at will.

I've been using the program for about a decade now and couldn't live without it.

Edit: I just checked, and simply hitting ctrl - shift - F initiates the find similar images function.
