Lol, I remember when I was a kid, we were in JC Penney and my mom wanted to buy some item, and the salesman told her she could get 10 percent off by applying for the JC Penney card. They brought out an application for the card. It had the standard "How much do you make, how much do you have in your checking account? etc"
I remember my dad telling them that it was none of their damn business. They got some manager from the headquarters on the phone and dad told them as long as he paid his bills it was none of their damn business to know any personal information besides his address and phone number.
Surprisingly, he was approved and mom got whatever the thing was that she wanted.

I first had a JCP card when I was 18 as a way to start building credit. Eventually, I stopped going in them as they had nothing I needed and were located in a huge mall that could provide better options.

At least 30 years passed and I found myself in Indiana needing some stuff for goodgirl's class reunion. There are not a lot of options out where she lives, so we tried the JCP that had just opened by her.

Same deal, I walk up with my purchase and they offer me 20-25% off if I got a card. I told them I doubt I would ever use it, but she said it did not matter. So I took my discount and never have gone back in one. That was a couple years ago.

After not using my JCP card for about 10 years. I finally called them and canceled it a few months ago.

Sears offered me a 10% discount one time I was in there if I would get one of their cards. I looked at the 26% interest and looked at the guy and said you are kidding right?

I now just carry a visa card.

I would never carry a balance on any of those cards any more than I would on a Visa or MasterCard. Take the discount and run.
