Band of Brothers

They ran the entire series on HBO this weekend. I DVR'd them all.
I hadn't seen it before, but heard it was incredible.

So far, it's living up to the hype.

band of brothers is one of the best mini series i have ever seen, just incredible characters and all of them hold true to the actual people they portray, which doesn't even seem to exist anymore with modern films. All the stories are dead accurate as to how they went down too, which is also rare.

I was pumped when i heard they were coming out with the pacific, and it is indeed good and worth watching, however the stories are spread out more and are a lot slower than the ones in its predecessor. I think they could have found some better stories out there. Maybe all the ones with the best stories are dead now?

Band of Brothers is a story of the special comradery that exists between soldiers, that in the most sheltered sense, every day people can still in someway relate to.

The Pacific is a concept that war is indeed hell and survival in such circumstances is a theme that only a very few can relate to.

The most shinning difference between the two is character development. Very quickly in Band of Brothers did I find myself attached to the lives of the characters, especially knowing they were based off of real people. The Pacific was pure chaos, hardly any character survives past a single episode, the ones that do portray a sense of despair so great it makes it difficult to want to watch the next episode.

I enjoyed both and highly recommend picking up the Blue-Ray format found on Amazon, a perfect gift on this Remembrance Day.

Band of Brothers is one of the best series ever.. The Pacific doesn't measure up by comparison in my opinion.. yeah it was ok, but it was simply lacking.

I have watched a couple episodes. Not as compelling as BoB, however I've always been more interested in the Atlantic conflicts.

Band of Brothers was epic, the Pacific was lacking. The story in The Pacific wasn't as linear, and a lot of times was rather dull.

Overall, The Pacific isn't the same lightning in a bottle that BOB was, but episode 9, when they invade Okinawa was seriously the most hardcore shit I've ever seen.

Chris,

Enjoy Band of brothers - I have seen the series 2 times and give it a complete 10+++

From the 1st episode to the last it genius work.. The storyline is exceptional..

I watched the Pacific also and it was pretty dang good but I have to say that BOB tops it easily....

I love Band Of Brothers.

There are so many stories out of WWII that no one ever knows, and when it's done correctly it's amazing.

Being a huge fan of Brothers, The Pacific was a disappointment for me. The story telling, the character development, the imagery - none of it was as compelling. There were definitely golden moments (Okinawa), but much felt like amateur night compared to Band of Brothers.

"Band of Brothers" is wonderful.

My Dad tells me of the milk man who brought the milk, the cottage cheese, the ice cream and other dairy products to his childhood home in a DIVCO milk truck. The kind in which the driver could sit or stand when moving and used dry ice to keep the milk cold. Dad tells me that Old Pete, which was what the milkman went by, was a shy man who never spoke of his past. Dad tells me that Old Pete was very kind to children and would often give them little containers of ice cream, popsicles, fix their bicycle tires, help the kids with their cats and dogs and just sometimes chat with them.

Old Pete had a small farm in Bonner Springs, Kansas off of 7 highway and until recently, the brick silo was still standing. I never met Old Pete but Dad tells me that one day he got Pete to tell him a little about his experience in World War Two but had to promise not to tell until after Pete had died. Turns out this ordinary, unassuming milkman, who was kind to children and animals was a veteran and survivor of one of the baddest group of warriors ever to make their presence known on the planet.

Merrill's Marauders.

90% of our WW II veterans have passed away and some 1500 of the remainder die each day.

Lest we forget.

BoB > The Pacific

I enjoyed both series but nothing I have ever watched has compared to Band Of Brothers. I think I have watched it about 7 times in its entirety. Simply an amazing miniseries.

Did you see Carentan?(episode 3 or 4 maybe) About the guy that gets hysterical blindness? So much to say about combat and taking a life in that episode. Some deep shit.

Great summing up. Both series were great. Never got Pacific in the beginning, on watching it again I understood it more. It must of been sheer hell.

I think you (just like many other BoB fans) expected to see BoB in the pacific. 'The Pacific' was something totally different; different theme, different concept,....

And another aspect that might explain why some people who liked Bob, didn't like 'The pacific', is the lack of a Good vs Bad theme. In BoB, you've got the good guys fighting the 'evil Germans'. In 'The Pacific' you get the total madness war is. In 'The Pacific', most men aren't heroes, they're just men... men who piss themselves, men who have trouble adjusting after the war, men that break under pressure, even men that commit 'war crimes',... BoB was a good old war story. 'The Pacific' dug a lot deeper....

They put the band of brothers actors through a mini bootcamp.
That makes a lot of difference.
