Chantix works well for some people. It is the kind of drug that either works or doesn't. In my case, I experienced sleep problems, wild-assed dreams and a few other nasty side effects which did not go away and which forced me to cease its use. I am extrememly sensitive to many meds, so my experience is not typical.

If you try it, you will know within a week or so if it will be helpful for you.

I recommend trying; what the Hell?

Can't hurt and could help!

There's lots of conflicting info on the web about this drug. Seems its sort of like acid, any mental issues it seems to make them worse. lol

There's only 1 way to quit smoking. Willpower.

That, and the patch to deter cravings and irritability.

Worked for me... going on 6 years.

It worked great..you smoke for 7 days while on it then the cravings are gone.

You have to be 100% sure you want to quit or it's super easy to go back.

I did not have any bad side effects except for the strange dreams which were actually pretty cool.
You might feel a little sick when you first start it but that will go away in a couple days.

Good luck man.

I was put on Wellbutrin and quit smoking without even really intending to. Only thing about that is it makes you wired and can cause nausea that lasts the first day or so.

I know a couple of guys that tried it (one stopped..the other is still using it) and they both admitted that it made them VERY short tempered and irritable. One already had a short fuse so this has not helped his anger management issue.

Like others said, it will give you some side effects. The first few days my stomach was upset but I pushed through and it went away. Around day 4 I was loosing the craving for a cig and when I did light up I could only smoke half if that. Smoking was now making my stomach upset and they started to taste horrible. On day 7 I tossed the remaining smokes and all items related to smoking. Smoke free for a couple years now. Besides making my stomach upset the first few days I did have some crazy dreams, very realistic dreams......

I stopped taking the drug then, went back to doc who gave me loads of valium and said sorry.

I gave up in the end later using patches. Been 18 months since I have had a cig now.

I quit smoking using Alan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I had really no side effects and it was not as difficult as I was expecting. Its been over 3 years and I have no desire to smoke.

Im really working on my husband now to read the book.

it's branded as Champix in Europe, and yup I did it.
First time, did 2 months, but relapsed 6 months later. Then did the full 3 month course and never looked back - 14 months so far.

It was *really* easy with Champix - the first week you carry on smoking with the pills, but after 5-7 days, you just don't want to smoke any more - it's really weird, but I found myself saying wtf am I bothering smoking this stuff? and threw the packet out.

Just got to stick with the 3 month course...

Side effects I had were really REALLY vivid dreams, which were a pain in the arse cos some were nightmares....

but small price to pay.

shit - I had the nightmares and vivid dreams which is not very pleasant, but never had the aggressiveness. Still the patches worked which in the end is all that matters

I think the best way to quit is to believe in yourself and just do it. No excuses, you don't need a chemical aid to quit. All you need is between the ears and within the chest. Believe in yourself, you can do it and you know it! 3 years here and going strong. Good luck.

I am more of a dick since I quit smoking a couple of years ago. Probably not lost on the more observant people. Also plumped up like people say they do when they quit. I'd say it's true for me too. But man was it ever worth it. Quit smoking by whatever means and you win!

Quit cold turkey 11 months ago.

The only thing that will help you quit is the desire to quit, and focus on the positives. Everything else is a crutch and an excuse to fail.

If you can't quit cold turkey you will never stay off. You need to really suffer so you don't forget how shit it is.

I tried a everything and it took cold turkey to kick it, 3 years clean.

My wife and I both quit using chantix. We had some side effects, mostly vivid dreams and some nausea in the beginning. It took two attempts but the second go around we managed to quit and have been smoke free for going on three years now. If you can deal with the side effects then it is worth it. I smoked for 25 years and near the end was doing almost three packs a day.

I have done some research about quiting couple month ago and that book was HIGHLY recommended, some chapters actually asked you to smoke while you are reading.

Yeah the side effects make it seem like shooting an ant with an elephant gum. My DR gave me the pamphlet and i cut out the words "QUIT SMOKING" on it and stuck it to my monitor for 3 months before I quit. It subconsciously make me want to quit which really helped.

I have been using Champix (Chantix in Europe) for almost two weeks and yesterday was my quit day. I have to say this has been really easy and no side effects, just amazing. You have to test it out.

Btw, tried to quit few times with Allen Carrīs book, managed to last max one week. Itīs good book to read though. But this Champix is sick, I dont even think about smoking.
Champix has one big positive side effect for me, I have been able to see lucid dreams few times.

I quit with it, relapsed, quit again with it.

Side effects I experienced were dizziness 20-30 minutes after ingesting this went away about 20 minutes later. Very vivid dreams (horrific nightmares). After the first 4 months of taking it I started to suffer from insomnia, 2-3 days at a time with 1-2 hours of dozing. I got a prescription for ambien and that was that. My wife said I became a bigger asshole then normal.

Thing is, if you do take it, my Doctor said take it for a year. After the first 3-4 days I noticed that cigs were not satisfying at all. It does make cravings pretty much non-existent. There are side effects with the drug but, its better then the side effects of smoking cigs.

If you give your body time to get used to it and are not physically sick (like my neighbor) I think its one of the best tools to help quit.

I tried that shit, it throw me in some horrible moods, even wanted to get out of the car and beat a old womans ass because of it! The kids hated me when I was on it, my mom would cry because I was mean! Bad bad side effects, I quit going cold turkey and shelled sunflower seeds! The salt blew me up like a balloon lol.. But when I found out I had cancer in Feb I was like fuck it and after 3 years of not smoking I went back.. which sucks now! When I get better ill go back to gym get my weight down and then cold turkey it again!

Thanks for all the feedback. Despite all the possible bad side effects I took my first pill a few days ago. I have to quit smoking, patch just didnt work for me. So far I have not had any side effects.

my little brother has been smoking for 12 years, 1 pack a day addiction....

he bought an e-cig from www.getsmoke99.com and he has stopped smoking cigarettes.

the smoke99 acts as almost like a instant fix of nicotine.. i was always pissed cuz everytime we go out, i have to wait for him to smoke a cig, because i am a non smoker.

now, whenever he gets the nicotine crave, he just takes a hit from it and its gone.

he says its a much cleaner smoke and feeling, not like chemically when smoking cig's and helped him gradually wean off.

regular smokes are like $5 a pack.. meaning almost $150 a month in cig's.

the 15 cartridge refill are $25.99 a month and are the same amount as smoking 1 pack a day. (1 cartdige = 2 packs of cigs)

let me know if you have any more questions, i can answer them.. i am so glad he found this product, as i fucking hate how smoking took over his life
