![]() The U.S. army is to begin using a futuristic rifle that fires radio-controlled 'smart' bullets in Afghanistan for the first time, it has emerged.
The XM25 rifle uses bullets that be programmed to explode when they have travelled a set distance, allowing enemies to be targeted no matter where they are hiding. The rifle also has a range of 2,300 feet making it possible to hit target which are well out of the reach of conventional rifles. The XM25 is being developed specially for the U.S. army and will be deployed with troops from later this month, it was revealed today. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...#ixzz16k1QTOYM

A field weapon that has laser guided rounds is sick and about time, they've been screwing with this technology for like 20 years now.
If we're at war, you want us to be making weapons, technology, etc... it's one way we pay for the war.

A rifle is really a weapon that requires aim, quickness and eye to hand coordination. It's like a blood sport. In other words, a person can shoot from 20 meters but miss the target. However, the person with the good aim will hit the target. Bullets fired and controlled by a machine could be more effective. Perhaps they want to make a shooting robot.

I like how he deflected the question Rick Sanchez asked about the weapon falling into the wrong hands. He said "we're always one step ahead of the enemy".
I think what Sanchez meant was a US soldier dying on the battlefield, and the enemy actually picking up the weapon itself. Something this powerful should be ID locked to the individual user. At least cave monkeys like the Taliban won;t be able to get around that security measure if they happen to find one on the battlefield.
