BREAKING NEWS: Pirate Bay lost the appeal case and have to pay even more.

Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Carl Lundström were convicted today in the Stockholm Court of Appeals for their part in operating The Pirate Bay.

The appeal court raised the damage amount from 30 million swedish kroner to 46 million.

They were also convicted to jail, ten months of jail time for Neij, eight for Sunde and four for Lundström. Little bit shorter than in the lower court.

The stupidity of the poster.

Quote:
This was a political trial from the start and it must be resolved politically, says Rick Falkvinge, leader of the Pirate Party. The public has lost all confidence in the justice system in these matters, and it is beyond sad that the courts still persist in running special-interest justice.
Pirate Bay was a commercial enterprise. It was run for profit.

Quote:
The copyright laws have strayed so far from the public?s perception of justice that copyright cannot survive without drastic reform. In such a reform, there is no place for today?s copyright industry.
Which means all his hard work in scripting and even programming, if he can, can be stolen. Or is it just other peoples work that can be stolen?

Quote:
When push comes to shove, the politicians are to blame, says Falkvinge. They have failed in their duty to adapt the legislation to next generation?s society and work, and it?s us citizens who pay the price when special interests get to rule. We simply must replace today?s politicians.
Here he's right. Except new laws will make it harder for him to steal other peoples work.

paul they were convicted of assisting copyright infringement when the police admitted they didn't turn off DHT and therefore had no proof that they were involved in the transaction at all. (because DHT takes priority so it not only possible but more likely the tracker is never even touched).

if the police did their job properly then this judgement would be justified but they basically dropped the ball.

Good news! But they're going to file yet another appeal, with the Supreme Court this time. So it will be another year probably until we'll see them in jail finally. The damn bunch of thieves is resilient as fuck...

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1

your bias is showing.

the pirate bay was a sophisticated business operation from the beginning which just used internet populism as their pr front, thier money is long hidden anyway.

I doubt, that site was hosted on USA host(caronet)while piratebay is hosted somewhere in europe.Beside it's enough to change host to get back in bussiness for that site torrent finder.

They seized their domain name, not server. Changing hosts wouldn't help.

I dont find it important will someone go to jail or pay fines,it's important to shutdown sites and there is a chance how on that field wont be any effect.

While I agree that shutting down the site is the most important thing, there needs to be some kind of punishment to act a deterrent. If I can make a torrent site and make millions giving away other people's content and the only punishment I might face is paying a fine and losing my site, it isn't much of a deterrent.
