Why Have The Democrats And Obama Not Extend Bush Tax Cuts?

I do not get it. Democrats and Obama do not want the tax cuts for the wealthy. Republicans want tax cuts for everyone. Why have the Dems not just passed the bill they want? They still have super majority and in a lame duck session.

What is stopping them?

Fillibuster seems to be the only answer to all their stupidity and contradictions.

Interesting.

Can't remember a time when that was the single answer to an administrations every bad legislative move.

They don't have a super majority... they have 58 votes. It's only takes 40 votes to prevent cloture. In addition, in order to pass the tax cuts the debt ceiling has to be raised. It's a catch 22.

I dont know if you know this or not, there is no 2011 budget yet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Un...federal_budget

Quote:
The budget did not pass this year, the first time since 1974, and on September 30, 2010, the Congress voted on a continuing resolution, to keep the government running until December 3, 2010.
They need to rework so the debt ceiling does not need to be raised. But they wont.

When the budget was created, they had supermajority. They could have ended the tax cuts then and lifted the debt ceiling and passed the budget.

The real question is why would anyone want rich people to continue receiving tax cuts which are proven to not stimulate anything but republicans testicles?

The question is do rich people have the same right to their property as middle and lower class people? If you answer no you might be a bigot.

To clarify I am not calling you a bigot. Just anyone who thinks rich people do not have the same rights to their property.

Offtopic, your guys mobile program rocks.

I did not say that anyone has any different rights to anything.

I'm saying that the ARGUMENT put forth continually is not what happens with the money man. It's really that simple.

Yeah its a false argument to take the distraction on the property rights of people. There is data that says tax cuts work and there is data that says it doesnt. But the focus on the debate should be the question I posed. The rights of a person to keep their money. Either we are equal or we are not. I contend that we are equal.

I agree with this and so do a lot of my liberal friends. That is where I get lost. If people agree that big money, the rich, wall st, big biz and so on run the government why on earth would anyone want to make the government bigger and have more power?

I think really rich people should have nice huge houses with a staff if they want it. nice big boats to float around in, fast cars to feel young, luxury cars to feel a bit spoiled, hot and cold running babes if thats what they are into. I think they should enjoy life as much as they possibly can and feel good if they did not have to kill themselves to make their money and feel great if they had to bust their asses to earn it. I have no ill will towards anyone with a ton of cash... good on ya I say

Conversely, I think that if a working man (or woman) that bust their asses every week, work hard for their family and do their best, that they should also receive good health care and social programs that are there ready to help them out when they need a hand. Something to help them improve their quality of life so that they can spend a few hours a week with their children that does not involve mom and dad sitting back exhausted on a broken down threadbare couch not knowing how they are going to pay for the necessities or if they will have a home to collapse in next month. That they do not have to hide if someone bangs on the door or sit in silence because the phone is ringing and it can only be a bill collector that they just cant pay.

Yes I want the rich to remain rich and enjoy their good life, but I think in this society it is perfectly acceptable for them to pay a bit more in taxes then a struggling single mom or some family barely clutching by their fingertips to this dream called the middle class

If u think the new group are going to make gov smaller your kidding yourself. As far as the rich are getting picked on thats funny ezpecially when you consider google paid 2.5 percent in corporate tax.

You mean the company who employees over 20,000 people directly and probably is responsible for 10-100X more jobs indirectly and that pumps billions every year into new companies, gives away 9 figures to philanthropic interests annually and so on, is just a greedy leech offering nothing to the world?

Maybe we would all be better off if Microsoft, Amazon, Google and all of the other greedy billion dollar companies that create billions of revenue never existed?

because it would be wrong for the country not to pay for it's wars. and wrong to borrow money to cover tax cuts.

somebody has to pay. your side never cuts government, you just increase taxes covertly.

so tell you what, you folks actually cut spending, then maybe you have a legitimate argument for cutting taxes.

you can start by paying for the wars, instead of borrowing to fund them.

Ok moron I'll explain. If the Senate tries to pass the Obama version then the republicans will fillibuster which means a vote can not be taken on it unless 60 members of the Senate agree to end the fillabuster. Since the Dems only have 59 memebrs of the Senate how to do you get 60 votes?

What I don't get is thay all the republicans and teabaggers complain about passing on this huge deficit to their kids and grandkids yet want to extend a tax cut that never should have been that will add $700 billion to the deficit over the bext 10 years. This is on top of a republican passed medicare prescription drug bill that will cost over $500 billion over it's first 10 years and a 2 trillion Iraq War that never should have happened.

What's to be lost on? Disavow yourself of the false idea that all government is monolithic in intent and capability and it's obvious. What you call "big government" can easily be anti "big money, wall st, big biz" Eg the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Surprise surprise it's not a black and white issue.

There is too much mouth breathing human deitritus under me for that to happen. I employ 9 people. 3% here or there wouldn't have any effect on me whatsoever, I'm not that weak or pathetic. I'm happy to pay a little more to help ensure there is a strong middle class and that I don't have to live in a gated community surrounded by slums. It keeps the majority content and docile and keeps them ripe for the picking.

pretty simple, the government ran up a bill they want the rich to pay for, the government should cut the waste before talking about more taxes for the rich, people hear the rich and without a clue, they are all for it because it doesn't include them.

California is in deep trouble because of the unions and entitlements, yet they won't change because our voters are the ones that benefit from it, thats why we got Boxer and Brown in office and they won't fix anything

Exactly! Cut the god damned spending!!!!!!!

Obama needs to stop appointing more Czars and creating more fucking governing bodies... he's adding more HR overhead to the government than any other president in history! Bush was guilt of this himself but Obama has already almost passed the 8 YEARS Bush had to do damage.

Obama is like a fucking teenager with his first credit card:

Liberals call the GOP the party of no, I call the liberal politicians that say the that "the party of I'm going to call you names if I don't get my way"
It's pretty clear that the people they represent want the tax cuts, they want the government to cut waste, but Barry in an interview blew it off as midterms are always like this, even though is was the worse in 70 years

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that

I wish every country would simultaneously stop lending cash to the US... THAT would be excellent.

Oh you mean we HAVE to bring the troops home because we can't afford it?

Wait what's that? Cabinet members will fly public transportation?

Holy shit wait now you want everyone to be accountable for their spending because you need to pay attention to exactly where the dollars come from and where they go because they aren't infinite any more?!

The national debt is like a fucking credit card where you set your own limits and can adjust them at any time... shit why pay it down when you can just borrow more?!
