The new $50 Canadian dollar

http://www.khaleejtimes.com/services...1_27032012.jpg

I know it's old news but when a Canadian friend of mine showed me his new wad of fifty dollar notes, they look impressive!

I wonder how much the Canadian government spent on the polymer technology and how much development it took to reach the end product.

garce 04-23-2012 11:56 AM

You paper cuts were nasty? Try rifling out a stack of these or the 100s. Slippery and sharp as hell - and probably cost more than they're worth to make. Much like the fancy new coins we're gonna start pumping out.

You can slice tomatoes with these fucking bills. You can't tell from the pics, but portions of the bills are clear; see-through. Razor sharp plastic.

Saran-wrap with attitude.

Anyone will accept the new bills. Counterfeiters - get to WORK! We still have twenties and fives to produce; there is a huge window of opportunity here...

David! 04-23-2012 12:13 PM

They look and feel so good I was affraid to put them in my wallet and fold them :1orglaugh

The government announced in the budget that it is eliminating the penny from Canada's coinage system. In about six months the Royal Canadian Mint will stop distributing Canadian coppers.

You can't fold them. They just "sproing" back into ship. In a couple of years they'll be as useful as an old Hostess potato chip bag. But they're cool now...

I'm afraid of keeping them in my wallet while I BBQ, though.

Spunky 04-23-2012 12:17 PM

They are going to do the same with the 20's.You have to be careful as they tend to stick together easily and can melt, making them useless as it's almost half a bill

cthulhu_waves 04-23-2012 12:23 PM

Aw that sucks! And to think they look so futuristic and shit, they melt?!?!?!

DoubleD 04-23-2012 12:26 PM

...now I just need to find a way to earn 50 bucks :winkwink: :winkwink:

marlboroack 04-23-2012 12:27 PM

Who's that asshole on the bank note?

if they were folded one way, it's hard to have them folded the other way, I have a fobia about having all my bank notes facing the same way, so if it was alreday folded ass back wards, it wants to stay that way:winkwink:

CPimp 04-23-2012 12:42 PM

Nice, meltable money.

PR_Glen 04-23-2012 01:06 PM

wouldn't the old notes burn anyways? though i wonder if you leave these new bills in the sun will they warp like a record?

mchacal 04-23-2012 01:47 PM

I'm sure this is way less expensive than paper

fris 04-23-2012 01:52 PM

you can try and tear the bill and it wont tear

Mrwww 04-23-2012 02:03 PM

Why are you all bothered about them melting ?

Id rather my 50 melt a bit rather than catch fire and leave me with $50 worth of ashes.

fris 04-23-2012 02:08 PM

i like that it doesnt tear, so many bills get cut up and not usable

I can't afford a 50$ bill...

Socks 05-02-2012 11:11 AM

They don't feel like real money to me. At least they're all the same size, unlike in Mexico where they're all fucking different sizes.. morons.

Also if you get a stack of them give them a whiff, they smell slightly like maple syrup.. not even a canadian joke, they really do.

hmm, but different sizes of bills are useful ... for blind ppl for example ... it makes sense to have them in different sizes imho ... a moron who doesnt think about THAT :2 cents:

SleazyDream 05-02-2012 12:02 PM

Read. Learn.

kal86 05-02-2012 12:47 PM

looking more and more like monopoly money

V_RocKs 05-02-2012 01:02 PM

People that go to Canada or USA on vacation hate our money. Especially American money where it is all the same size and color... I guess actually looking to see if a bill has a $20 mark or a $100 mark is too much to ask... They prefer to just hand you an orange, a green and three blues when giving you $18...

CaptainWolfy 05-02-2012 01:22 PM

when i was in canada last year and went to starbucks to get some coffee, i gave the dude 50$ bill and he looked me so shocked and said that he can't give me change, i was confused and gave him my plastic but not sure how come they didn't have change, at home i am more using paper bills than plastic. :/

Phoenix 05-02-2012 01:41 PM

i like them...they dont take up as much room

Tom_PM 05-02-2012 01:53 PM

The Leader is good..
The Leader is great..

Yeah. Who cares if blind or visually impaired people get ripped off! Make them all the same size!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/500_euro_note
'It is the largest note measuring 160x82mm and has a purple colour scheme.'

for thoses who dont know about millimeters just convert it with google :)

heard rumours that the penny is on the choppingj block

AdultRevGriffin 05-02-2012 04:35 PM

Can anybody post a video of them slicing a tomato with one of these new bills? :)

SilentKnight 05-02-2012 04:37 PM

Along with phasing out the penny - they also changed the weight of the loonie and toonie which is now fucking up a lot of the vending industry. They're having to re-calibrate machines to accept the new coin currency.

alias 05-02-2012 04:44 PM

Other than them sticking together when new, pretty nice.

fuzebox 05-02-2012 05:04 PM

Canadian money is a fraction of an inch wider than american money, pisses me off because my wallet won't close around it properly (I fold my bills in half and stick them in a CC slot).

Lykos 05-02-2012 06:37 PM

Looks good !
