Never will happen

Never will happen

Online anonymity, that's a joke. Only cash allows you to not give out any name or ID.
Safe? Any hacker can get your money or ID. Granted a thief can steal your wallet or cash from your home. But a can of cash in the back yard, is safe, as long as only YOU know it is there.

Long as prostitution, drugs and even legal transactions, such as yard work, that people don't want taxed, cash will exist. Even if a country, say Canada outlaws cash, people will use cash from another country or someone will create a currency.

Implementing a cashless society is going to be virtually impossible. There will always be an underground economy and the barter system.

Klen 08-15-2012 11:06 AM

Looks like offline currency for online transactions, not a replacement for cash lol.Something like http://www.ukash.com

Rochard 08-15-2012 11:28 AM

Who the fuck carries cash?

Every weekend now we go to local football games and it's cash only. It sucks. Every time we have to go to the bank before hand.

2MuchMark 08-15-2012 11:32 AM

I heard about this already, it will definitely arrive. (I hope they allow adult!).

mce 08-15-2012 03:59 PM

Let's hope it happens sooner rather than later. Cash currency = outmoded

Spunky 08-15-2012 08:37 PM

Other than online, all I use is cash only

Klen 08-16-2012 12:16 AM

Also banning cash it's not possible yet due to -old people.Toomany people still dont know to use computers.I predict in 40 years cash ban should be done.

DamageX 08-16-2012 12:35 AM

Cashless society would be very convenient. However, it's also bankers' wet dream. Imagine them being able to loan out tons of cash they can now REALLY produce out of thin air. And it won't run the risk of any bank run, since no one can actually go to the bank and withdraw all their cash.

I, for one, carry cash, because I do not like plastic money. And I despise people who write checks.

spunky99 08-16-2012 10:43 AM

do ppl still write checks at stores? didnt know you could do that. i use interac for everything myself, only time i ever need cash is when i goto the states

MaDalton 08-16-2012 10:46 AM

i hate people in front of me who pay by card in the supermarket.

Evil Chris 08-16-2012 11:11 AM

Chip based technology is one of the first steps towards this. If you don't think cash will eventually be phased out, think again.

Quote:

Canada is moving to chip-based technology

Banks and the major credit card companies are now moving to chip technology for debit and credit cards. In addition to the magnetic stripe on the back, cards now also have a microchip ? really a small computer ? in the card.

When making a purchase, rather than swiping your card and signing a receipt, you now insert it in the store payment terminal, punch in a personal identification number (PIN) and leave your card in the terminal while the transaction is processed. These cards use a technology called ?cryptography? that allows the card and the store terminal to communicate with each other during the transaction and carry out security checks to ensure the card is valid.

The microchip is state-of-the-art in payment card technology and is extremely difficult for criminals to duplicate. In fact, chips cards have reduced fraud in a number of other countries where they are currently used. The implementation of chip-based technology is well on its way and most retailers and consumers are now able to do chip and PIN transactions.

Visa Canada and MasterCard Canada are bringing chip card technology to Canada on behalf of the banks and the financial institutions that issue Visa and MasterCard branded credit cards. To learn more about chip technology, visit their websites at:
