Same here, after the last big earthquake it was nearly impossible to get cell service for hours after the quake...but the landline still worked. :thumbsup :2 cents:

Fuck, hurricanes suck and they're getting worse every year.

SiMpLe 10-29-2012 01:46 PM

I was in the middle of hurricane Andrew - That was the reason I moved back to the west coast soon after.

I'm running on a new natural gas powered generator right now: it's wired into house and comes on automatically when power cuts.

NE storms and power outages have been getting worse / more common, so most neighbors have a similar rig, too.

The storm is still south of me but getting closer...

Good idea... Hopefully you have gas too, there is a pretty high risk that gas pipes are being shut down / damaged to prevent major fires

I was'nt taking about phone techs. I was talking about High Voltage linemen.

When everyone evacuates, the linemen congregate !

In anticipation of Hurricane Sandy, PSE&G has requested more than 1,300 linemen and 600 tree contractors from utilities in other states to assist our highly skilled crews.

I hope you can manually shut off the power coming into the house before the generator comes on :Oh crap

This is a relatively serious matter. I don't get why people are joking around about it. Mother nature is a beast of maximum force.

Andrew was terrible. I grew up in Miami Lakes and had JUST moved up to ATL a year before Andrew.
Went back down to help, as much as I could, in my old neck of the woods...
Brutal devastation then! :(
