Good domains Taboo but I personally think 9-12x annual revenue is too high.. I mean you can do better than that with commercial real estate :)

The BIG domain sale.

bidding had stalled on Tuesday at $55,000 (pair). It all came down to which bidder could prove they were serious by paying first. Then one stayed up with me late on Tuesday and made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Many buyers wanted the name for it's revenue, but the brandability was a factor. Most importantly: Neither bidder required traffic testing/sampling because I provided an over-abundance of stats, screenshots, spreadsheets, historical earnings/traffic data, year-vs-year growth numbers, etc. and I'm willing to do a conference call with DomainSponsor and bidders to verify stats/earnings.

All-in-All. Quick turnaround time, but I already miss the domain names... especially DreamVacations.com

It may appear to be too high at first glance, but you have to factor in growth in revenue, traffic and higher ad payouts year after year. Plus buyers have their own search feed &/or higher parking revenue split and most likely will be hand-optimizing a better landing page.

Ya know I signed up with DomainSponsor a few months back and have been reluctant to put any domains over there as it seems they discourage the use of nameserver changes - seems kinda strange?? Sure wish they would make it a little easier to just change DNS and fly - Ive got 1100 domains I wouldnt mind testing over there, but certainly not going to go put up a frame/index page on every one

Also noted that they seem to discourage "advertising" links to your own domains - if you have links on say your own domain sales site linking to your domains they wont pay for that traffic? Even though it may lead to sales with a cut for them? (At least thats the way their TOS reads)

no you can't boost your traffic. they only want organic traffic. One day, one of my dormant domains got a blast of traffic from some radio show... totally out of my control... it lasted for a few days, but it became an "issue", and rightly so. I assume they don't want to ruin any relationship they have with their search partners, especially over me... in the end they let me keep the revenue, about $500+, but I think that particular domain is monitored closely now and I may not get a credit for another burst of "accidental" traffic. :)

Right now Im using the SedoPro system - customizable(to a point) landing pages and unfortunately being a new parking system it also has little annoyances - but at least they'll pay me for traffic that comes from old DMOZ/LL/SE traffic from when the domains were used back in 2000/01 etc.
They figure that the traffic is still good traffic as well as they have a good attitude about me running a domain site where I can list my domains for sale that points to their landing pages - which is a win/win solution for both of us.

Thanks to everyone for their backup bids ("if it doesn't go thru I'll buy it") Deal was still pending, not on my part or buyers, but waiting for Escrow.com to finalize and now it's wrapped up. I want to thank the new owner for a speedy & smooth transaction. The buyer didn't just bid via email, but backed up the bid with an Escrow.com transaction and after I approved, the buyer immediately wired the full amount and I have already transferred the name to him and Escrow.com released funds a few minutes ago. Seamless deal, tht closed in less than 24 hours... actually less than 3 hours. Sold it based on brandability (though there is revenue).

you may not make a dime if there's ZERO traffic, but even 1 click can bring in a substantial amount. A few weeks back one of my domains which never got any real traffic or revenue got 1 unique, and generated $100+ w/ one click. You never know. in fact, I even considered letting that one go or selling it cheap a week before that happened.

you never know. :)

and if you can't monetize with purely parking, there are other possiblities including selling the domain and... other avenues to revenue.
