Do You Ever Give Customers Refunds?

Do You Ever Give Customers Refunds? For example..if they say that they didn't know their credit card was going to recur at a monthly charge etc.
Do you respond to chargebacks? Does it normally go in your favor or the customer?

no, I almost try and never give a refund

I would rather give them 3-4 months free access than a refund

Yeah, I do that too but they almost never go for it. How often do you get refund requests?

not very often at all actually, maybe 1-2 a year

I am very specific in my tours though about what is going to be in the site

It all depends on the situation. If it is a problem on my end I sometimes do it, but I usually try to give them something free in addition rather than refunding.

When you think about it..

What are you going to gain from giving this customer a refund? Obviously if they want to cancel, gaining good rep with them is no good because they dont want your service and wont rejoin ever. Good rep passed on to other people? the internet is that vast that one disgruntled person won't matter at all.

If you offer them a few months membership on the house and they turn it down sounds like they might just be a freeloader..

Everybody wants somethin' for nuthin'.

:2 cents:

It depends on their complaint. Sometimes, it's just good customer service to give a refund. We have had customers come back after a refund. Plus there's the possibility that they will chargeback anyway. If it's an issue you can turn around, then free or discounted price might do the trick, but I wouldn't rule any solution out until I hear the circumstances.

Next to never.

I do the same with the month(s) of membership versus a refund. However, it really all depends. I've had a few here and there over the years that had some technical issues that I just refunded them instead of trying to me Micro$oft support on their junk computers.

At EGC we'd get customers who'd want a refund because they couldn't access the members area ... they were entering the wrong un/pw a majority of the time.

So, we'd extend their membership free of charge and for other issues we'd do the same, usually took care of any problems.
