The Karate Kid is an epic movie.

It?s the story of a hopeful, young karate enthusiast whose dreams and moxie take him all the way to the All Valley Karate Championship. Of course, sadly, he loses in the final round to that nerd kid. But he learns an important lesson about gracefully accepting defeat.

Now you're just stating the obvious. The Karate Kid is THE most epic movie around.

Ummm yeah he does.

The Karate Kid, Johnny Lawrence from the Cobra Kai dojo, loses in the finals to the dorky kid from New Jersey who doesn't even know karate.

"Come on, come on, make a move!" You are Dutch. Not many good things can be said about a prick like you except that you're extremely loyal to your friends. This most likely indicates that you had a bad childhood and/or were abandoned by one or both parents. Intelligent people should feel sorry for you, but most people are just plain terrified. You are malicious, violent, and impatient, so you make either a tremendous ally or a frightening enemy. Some advice? Hmmm. You could try laughing more (out of joy, not spite). Maybe get yourself laid.

The saddest part is when Johnny congratulates the whiny little runt dork who does not know karate..........what kind of message does that send to kids...... that it is cool to be a whiny little runt dork who does not know karate? :(

I remember seeing Karate Kid when I was like 9 or 10. I took martial arts shortly afterwards and from that point forward never let anyone pick on me at school. Every school bully quickly realized I would fight back and therefore "not worth" messing with.

It's a corny movie, but it changed the life of a 10 year old, lol.

That movie always puts a smile on my face.

Yeah but that's the moral of the story: It's one thing to be handsome, popular and great at Karate, but the true winner can also accept defeat graciously. The Karate Kid learns a life lesson from that dorky kid and that sushi chef who's house he works on so he can get a ride to the tournament with him.

WarChild 03-15-2009 12:14 PM

Come to think of it there were a lot of movies with sad endings in the 80's and 90's.

Die Hard: The story about Hans Gruber. A charming, international bandit who's life work is spoiled by a corrupt off duty cop.. At the end he died hard. He’s the title character.

ET: Those terrorist kids help the alien escape foiling the millitary and putting the entire nation's security at risk. I believe this was a warning to parents to keep a better eye on their children but still it was a sad movie.

The only movie I can really think of from back then where the hero actually wins in the end is the first Rocky. Apollo Creed ends up beating the dirty Italian through hard work and heart but it's close.

Yea this one was particularly painful. Gruber is a dedicated idealist willing to risk his life to make the world a better place and he is ruthlessly killed by a drunken cop who believes in nothing. I guess the lesson is that even if you make huge sacrifices to try and make the world a better a place it is no guarantee that you wont be foiled by some lazy corrupt bureaucrat. :disgust
