Palin: Canada needs to dismantle their healthcare system
 

WASHINGTON ? Marg Delahunty has braved the wilds of the American Midwest to come face-to-face with Sarah Palin.

Comedian Mary Walsh's beloved character button-holed the former Alaska governor at a recent book-signing in Columbus, Ohio, only to be strong-armed away from Palin by a cabal of security guards.

The action was documented on Tuesday night's "This Hour Has 22 Minutes," but four days later, Walsh was still marvelling at her close encounter with one of the most controversial politicians on the planet.

"We told her we're from Canada, and we're just looking for a few words of encouragement for the Canadian conservatives who have worked so tirelessly to destroy the socialized medicare that we have," Walsh recalled Tuesday from St. John's.

"Four huge big burly guys started pushing, and I pushed back, but I got her attention, and she told us to keep the faith, something like that, and said we're all trying for the same thing."

After being kicked out of the book-signing, Walsh and her crew then waited outside at a loading dock close to where Palin's bus was parked. When Palin emerged from the Borders bookstore, Walsh said, Delahunty - dressed in a more toned-down version of her trademark warrior princess costume - called out to her.

"Hey, remember us, we're the Canadians! We came all the way here from Canada!" Delahunty yelled. "When we asked you that question, we didn't hear your answer."

Palin strolled over, looking down on Walsh and her crew to tell them that "Canada needs to dismantle its public health-care system and allow private enterprise to get involved and turn a profit."

"Basically, she said government should stop doing the work that private enterprise should do," Walsh said.

In addition to those comments, Walsh said, she found it equally bizarre that no one was allowed to ask Palin any questions at the book-signing.
"It was great fun, but also very strange," Walsh recalled.
"We're in a bookstore, at a public event, in a place one would think was a bastion of free speech. And no one was allowed to ask questions. What are they afraid of?"

in the end i might pay a little more, but hey, i pay for a system that works for me,and seemingly works well enough. even if we may have a few wrinkles to iron out...

Plus we don't have to pay extra for health insurance every single month. So in reality, people in the US spend more on taxes and health care than we do on taxes, but we get health care at no additional cost. I'd rather pay a few % extra on taxes and get health care with no worries than pay almost the same taxes plus have to pay monthly for health insurance and have to deal with a lot of bullshit.

It's hilarious that the US needs to make commercials spitting propaganda about how 'bad' our health care is.

This is Odd. I September 2009, I watched the Barack Obama speech, and Barack said, "USA needs to have a health care system closer to Canada. They want a more public healthcare system that's more affordable to all citizens."

Why people think that public health is socialism?? It must be propaganda effect in US and Canada, because it doesn´t happen in any other place in planet.

In my country we had public health even during military goverments that used to kill any single person that could have a minimal chance to be red.

Health and education are basic in the development of any society, there is no need to make business with that...

Just for the record, Canadians do not associate Socialism with Health Care. That's our southern friends media outlet, like you say, propaganda.

The only people I know bitching about the healthcare system right now are all the nursing students that arenow currently graduating having been told there were all these jobs coming, that aren't here now, lol. They're bitching because they don't have the jobs that we trucked boatloads of Filipinos in for, hah. But the system is working pretty well as is if you ask me.

Profit should never be tied to Health and if it is it should be secondary.

If I lived in the U.S. I would be a Republican (Ron Paul one) but Health is the ONLY issue I think should be centralized. When money has it's name on health care it creates greed and worst case scenarios for fellow citizens.

Sarah Palin does not have a clue about these type of political issues because she has money and thats the problem with most politicians. Good policies need to come from the men and women who make the country flow with their bare hands and manual labor. The average Joe needs to be accommodated and considered when discussing these items.

This was in context of a thread about Americans wanting healthcare more like what Canada has. Several Canadians were using the same thread to tell us how shitty their healthcare really was, which helped support the usual conservatives who argue against it for us.

My dad has medical through Boeing. A company he worked for over a period of decades.

He has to wait in line just like people in Canada do. He wanted to see about a soreness in his left knee. They told him to schedule an appointment and they will see him around December 8th. This was back around Nov 20th.

He asked WTF, is this socialized medicine? They said that is just how it goes. So he called a buddy that uses Medicare. Asked him about a similar issue he had and how long it took to see a doctor. It took several days, but not several weeks.
