I have a serious question for British people

As we all know when Brits and Americans sing we sound pretty much the same. I was wondering if we also sound the same when we speak while we burp. You know that guy at the pub who can speak entire sentences while he burps? Does his British accent remains intact when he burps?

Spudman 12-01-2009 12:18 PM

Also do we sound the same when we Fart? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Another good question: Can you talk and fart at the same time?

ArsewithClass 12-01-2009 12:28 PM

My son burps and speaks. Damn annoying rude git, lol. I tell him off obviously. It definatly sounds English and not American.

While were on this sort of question, Why do Americans say they speak English and not US? English is from England?

Yeah I live with a burper who can belch out entire sentences. LOL

In my own microcosm we tend to speak a mixture of English, American slang, yiddish, ebonics, and Spanish. :2 cents:

joshll 12-01-2009 02:12 PM

also...why on everything, when your selecting what language we speak does it say "English(US)" how many americans are so retarded that they dont know they speak english ?

fatfoo 12-01-2009 02:48 PM

I believe that British people don't pronounce "r" sounds. So - when they say "car", it sounds like "caahhh". Anyway, there's many different dialects, too.

When they burp, they probably don't pronounce the "r" sounds, either.

I always say I speak English and American. Having had to translate both back and forth in my head for 13 years now, I can say they are actually pretty different from each other.

You are confusing the Britain for Boston.

Hmmm... maybe because US English spells some words differently? -ize/-ise, -o-/-ou-, etc.

Americans can't differentiate between Australian and English accents. They have no chance with singing involved too.

Sarah_Jayne 12-02-2009 08:31 AM

I think it is more a case that there has been a tradition of British pop stars that are looking to get into the American market trying to sound less British. However, when singing 'naturally' there is a British accent. Think of the Beatles, the Clash, The Rolling Stones, etc..all have their accents when they sing.

tranza 12-02-2009 08:40 AM

They sound different..

Little River Band, AC/DC, Crowded House, INXS, Midnight Oil, The Seekers, Jet, Cold Chisel, Yothu Yindi, Hoodoo Gurus all have easily detectable Australian accents which are much different from the also easily detectable voices of Chumbawamba, which you can hear in the background of this video.

Is that the same accent/dialect that can't pronounce "th"?

"I fink ee's gonna come in"

It is certainly one of them. My particular area of London has one of the 'lazy' dialects I have ever heard. If we ever have kids I will work as hard as I possibly can to have them not sound like they are from the part of London where I live. Of course any kid with an American mother and a Northern England father growing up in London is going to have a weird accent but as long as it isn't the one the kids around here have it will be a start.

Sarah_Jayne 12-02-2009 02:12 PM

This new tv show was filmed literally outside my front door. The blonde in the trailer with her hair slicked right back talks exactly like the girls in this part of South East London. It is a horrid version of the London accent. The show isn't horrible though..weird seeing my place on tv..it is also the same place Clockwork Orange was filmed.

Nice trailer.. I have a question.. do Woman from the UK like Canadian guys accents as much as we like theirs? Nothing I like more than a woman with an English accent!

That's to separate us from the UK's freakish use of the letter U.

Colour, neighbour, etc.

You clearly don't have a grasp on English yet.

People tend to like what sounds different. I used to be a sucker for a 'British' accent when I was in the States. Now, I know there is no one 'British' accent and I live here so I barely even notice any British accent now anyway.

I know some women that love what they say is an American accent which I am sure would qualify Canadian too. When they say that I do wonder which one though because a New York accent, for example, is vastly different than a Southern accent.

One has a grasp OF English, not a grasp ON it. Thanks for playing.

What a perfect example of irony. Something Americans very rarely understand.

dallasnovelty 12-03-2009 06:41 AM

and why do the english peeps add an er to peoples names that end in an A. Like Tabither did a great job vs Tabitha did a great job. Everyone likes our Texas Accent talk different than most any other state.

I wasn't trying to be funny. I was correcting someone who was using English incorrectly to correct someone else. Hence it being ironic.

But calling me a penis is really amusing and escalates your genius, deep and profound comedy to levels us Brits can only dream of. Well done for bucking the trend.

I salute you, Sir.

As an English minor in college, I can say that you are absolutely, positively incorrect. Either preposition would be correct.

Why do you have a hard-on for me? Is it because I called you on your elitist attitude regarding your choice of computers? If you're that sensitive, perhaps you should find a different line of work. Get a grip ON yourself, kiddo. :1orglaugh

[QUOTE=Babaganoosh;16610572]As an English minor in college, I can say that you are absolutely, positively incorrect. Either preposition would be correct.

Well I have a degree in English, and I am right.

And a preposition goes BEFORE a noun.

Sigh.
