I have a serious question for British people
As we all know when Brits and Americans sing we sound pretty much the same. I was wondering if we also sound the same when we speak while we burp. You know that guy at the pub who can speak entire sentences while he burps? Does his British accent remains intact when he burps?

My son burps and speaks. Damn annoying rude git, lol. I tell him off obviously. It definatly sounds English and not American.
While were on this sort of question, Why do Americans say they speak English and not US? English is from England? |

I believe that British people don't pronounce "r" sounds. So - when they say "car", it sounds like "caahhh". Anyway, there's many different dialects, too.
When they burp, they probably don't pronounce the "r" sounds, either.

I always say I speak English and American. Having had to translate both back and forth in my head for 13 years now, I can say they are actually pretty different from each other.

I think it is more a case that there has been a tradition of British pop stars that are looking to get into the American market trying to sound less British. However, when singing 'naturally' there is a British accent. Think of the Beatles, the Clash, The Rolling Stones, etc..all have their accents when they sing.

It is certainly one of them. My particular area of London has one of the 'lazy' dialects I have ever heard. If we ever have kids I will work as hard as I possibly can to have them not sound like they are from the part of London where I live. Of course any kid with an American mother and a Northern England father growing up in London is going to have a weird accent but as long as it isn't the one the kids around here have it will be a start.

This new tv show was filmed literally outside my front door. The blonde in the trailer with her hair slicked right back talks exactly like the girls in this part of South East London. It is a horrid version of the London accent. The show isn't horrible though..weird seeing my place on tv..it is also the same place Clockwork Orange was filmed.

I know some women that love what they say is an American accent which I am sure would qualify Canadian too. When they say that I do wonder which one though because a New York accent, for example, is vastly different than a Southern accent. |

[QUOTE=Babaganoosh;16610572]As an English minor in college, I can say that you are absolutely, positively incorrect. Either preposition would be correct.
Well I have a degree in English, and I am right. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/grasp And a preposition goes BEFORE a noun. Sigh. |
